  • Think about this the next time you call your partner "honey"

    [SIZE=3]How do bees make honey?

Honeybees use nectar to make honey. Nectar is almost 80% water with some complex sugars. In fact, if you have ever pulled a honeysuckle blossom out of its stem, nectar is the clear liquid that drops from the end of the blossom. In North America, bees get nectar from flowers like clovers, dandelions, berry bushes and fruit tree blossoms. They use their long, tubelike tongues like straws to suck the nectar out of the flowers and they store it in their "honey stomachs". Bees actually have two stomachs, their honey stomach which they use like a nectar backpack and their regular stomach. The honey stomach holds almost 70 mg of nectar and when full, it weighs almost as much as the bee does. Honeybees must visit between 100 and 1500 flowers in order to fill their honeystomachs.
I see.. as a baby my parents feed me with milk and bugs barf

Here's another fact about those evil creatures!

    The Queen:

The queen is the only sexually developed female in the hive. She is the largest bee in the colony. two-day-old larva is selected by the workers to be reared as the queen. She will emerge from her cell 11 days later to mate in flight with approximately 18 drone (male) bees. During this mating, she receives several million sperm cells, which last her entire life span of nearly two years.

    Yuck!

    The Drones

Drones are stout male bees that have no stingers. Drones do not collect food or pollen from flowers. Their sole purpose is to mate with the queen. If the colony is short on food, drones are often kicked out of the hive.

Let's stop that! If people boycott Adidas shoes because they're made by Philippino kids, we must boycott honey, which enslaves millions of bees worldwide and incourages sexual exploitation of female bees

Moderators: please, don't close this thread. It will teach people a cpl things about the food they eat

    Big whoop.
    What's good for you?
Now they're blubbering about a mother's breast milk.
    Can I say breast?

Your dissent from the rule of the Hive Queen has been noted. Punishment protocols will be initiated.
Exult in your existence, because that very process has blundered unwittingly on its own negation. Only a small, local negation, to be sure: only one species, and only a minority of that species; but there lies hope. [...] Stand tall, Bipedal Ape. The shark may outswim you, the cheetah outrun you, the swift outfly you, the capuchin outclimb you, the elephant outpower you, the redwood outlast you. But you have the biggest gifts of all: the gift of understanding the ruthlessly cruel process that gave us all existence [and the] gift of revulsion against its implications.

Honey? Do you care about honey? Think about the sea: each time a whale ejaculate (sorry if that word is not polite in English), 1.440 liters of semen are throw at sea. Think it next time you go to the beach

People, you just have to deal with the fact that we eat other creatures and all they contain and produce. So what? That is the way we were made after all (or developed...or the way we spontaneously sprung into existence...or whatever).

You do know that a steak is blood containing flesh sliced from the ass of a cow, right?
