You know that thing that's supposed to be better than the Internet?
It's now being recalled because of safety problems.

Actually, it's a pretty minor fault. The Segway can potentially become unstable on steep or rough terrain if the battery is severly drained. To reach this point, the rider would have to ignore a blinking warning light, a series of alarm beeps, and possibly a shaking control shaft - and still try to push the thing to continue across rough ground.
The fix is a software patch that allows the thing to shut itself down when the battery gets dangerously low -basically a stupidity governor. To me, it sounds more like a problem with idiot riders than the technology, but hey, that's America. Gotta protect people from themselves!
I still hold that the Segway is a ludicrous idea. I think this everytime I see an electric bike or electric scooter on the streets of Shanghai. There are now some very cool electrics - some look just like mountain bikes. They have all the advantages of the Segway, and none of the problems - for a fraction the cost (~US$200 - US$300). I'll try to post a few pictures soon.
Yeah, Duyba Fell Down
By the way, the reason Bush fell off wasn't because he was heroically pressing across dangerous terrain despite low-battery warnings.
It was because he tried to drive it without turning it on.

How dare you demean the work of NY Finests and their Segway patrols! Next you will go after bicycle cops!

Should I be scared? "Hey, what does this big red button do?"

i will never forget the great disappointment i felt upon learning that ginger, the invention that was to change the world, was nothing more than a glorified scooter. kamen kinda got a big head after that cool chair.
segways are stupid, so there's a bit of amusement i have there.
