Re: Tips as to what to see in specific locations in Spain
I see that you are going to at the northeast zone (Cataluña country) so I give you a more specific advice.
I was there three years ago , reason why there are sites that can have changed (bars and discos mainly). I suppose that you will see the most typical things on your guided trip (Sagrada Familia, Güell Park, Ramblas, Olimpic Promenade, Aquarium, Barça Stadium (110000), City beaches, Maremágnum...)
Museums:
-CCCB & MACBA (modern art), Miró Foundation, Tápies Foundation, Picasso Museum, Museo de la Erótica
....
Eating: every street has a good place:
-Can Culleretes, Fresc-Co (vegetarian self-sevice), Dive! (owned by Steven Spielberg, submarine form), Téxtil café...
Drinking & Cofee: Thousands
-Schillins (fashion, top models), Café de l'Ópera at the Ramblas, Laie, Els Cuatre Gats...
Night & Dance: Thousands. Opposite to other cities there is much mixture in every place
-Club Felini (international DJs), Fou Performance Night Club (Weird, founded by a gay ex-monk), Zeleste (top concerts)...
Surrounding Barcelona with mountains there is the Collserola Urban Park, With Foster communications tower at the top.
Montserrat (=Sawed mount )
Strictly guided tour. Near the monastery there are impressive caves that are said inspired to Gaudí: Caves of Colbató
Another interesting near mountain: Cardona's mine of salt. Shining
Girona: I haven't been, They have a very well conserved medieval center.
Figueres:
Wonderful beaches, Sitges specially. Visit the Ebro Delta: Natural park threatened by a massive engineering project
And Medas islands, there is a submarine trip.
tech & clothes purchasing (No taxes)
Amazing high mountains, try a walk.
There is a precious near valley, Aran valley where you can see ancient rest of the romanic culture, also you can practice climbing, fishing or rafting at the most wild river of Spain: Noguera Pallaresa.
Try going to Aigüestortes & Sant Maurici Lake National park: One of the best places at the Pyrenean mountain range.
