Carl Miner of Blytheville has gotten a very important lesson on why voters should go to the polls .

Miner was on Tuesday's ballot, unopposed for a school board seat in south Mississippi County. No one voted for him -- and the candidate didn't even cast a ballot for himself.

Officials say Tuesday was the first time in Mississippi County an entire precinct didn't vote.

Miner was running to represent the Luxora area on the South Mississippi County School Board.

Miner says he tried to vote but the polling place near his zone was closed. He says he thinks he gets the seat because no one else was on the ballot.

Now, now. There's no reason to rub in the fact that a certain poly tubby lost an election to a dancing banana.

          1st reaction: that's hilarious.

2nd reaction: no, wait, that's sad. Democracy requires that, at least on *some* level, we care.

It would have been funnier if one person had written in the traditional "Mickey Mouse".

I have no sympathy for anyone too lazy to make the extra effort to vote for himself.

that's almost as bad as a republican winning the presidential election with less votes than the democratic candidate, and not legally winning the state of Florida

Why should I vote for myself, I'm sure someone who knows me will: famous last words .
“I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”

                          This is a great story.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

The story is from Blytheville Ark, which is in Mississippi County.
