Just downloaded it. YE HAW! Now squeal like a pig for me, Boris. That's right, SQUEAL!
Florida is not Deliverance country. I'll bet that fewer than half of your neighbors can properly pronounce "y'all" or "Lordy mercy". Fact is that if the Civil war broke out all over again tomorrow, Florida is the only part of the former United States that would be contested between Cuba and Israel.

Lemme put it to you this way, son. I was recently reading a copy of Jacksonville Homes. In the back they had a top ten list of reasons why Jacksonville is great. One of the reasons was this:

When people say we're more like South Georgia than South Florida, we take that as a compliment.

Damn straight. It'd be a contest over who we could foist it off on, too.

So my state legislature is proposing a confederate battle flag vanity plate (we have like a million different vanity plates). The people who put the hundred foot Confederate battle flag over I-75 are behind it.

I'm gonna propose a plate that says UNION FOREVER!

Come to think of it, the Messiah is rife with sexual connotations...maybe the label is appropriate to save our children! Just look at some of these tracks:

"But who may abide the day of His coming?"
                "Behold, a virgin shall conceive"
"And lo! An angel of the Lord came upon them"
"How beautiful are the feet of them"

So we have some bukkake, foot fetishes and deflowering virgins. Tsk. Filth.

I see lots of confederate bumber stickers and confederate flags here in Oklahoma even though Oklahoma wasn't apart of the Confederacy.

If you want to see lots of Confederate bumper stickers and Confederate flags, go to West Virginia. Apparently the people there are too stupid to realize that West Virginia left the confederacy to join the Union...

This is weird, but I used to see a lot of confederate battle flag stickers on buses and taxis in Grenada during Maurice Bishop's socialist regime. Evidently the folks just figured the symbol had something to do with rebellion without considering that it represented a rebellion of slaveowners. Probably better than 90% of the population of Grenada are descended from slves brought there to work on plantations.

                            Alas, 'tis true:

"If ever there was a truly great and original genius in any art, Handel was that genius in music; and yet, what may seem no slight paradox, there never was a greater plagiary. He seized without scruple or concealment, whatever suited his purpose. But as those sweets which the bee steals from a thousand flowers, by passing throught its little laboratory, are converted into a substance peculiar to itself, and which no other art can effect, --- so, whatever Handel stole, by passing through the powerful laboratory of his mind, and mixing with his ideas, became as much his own as if he had been the inventor. Like the bee, too, by his manner of working, he often gave to what was unnoticed to its original situation, something of high and exquisite flavour: To Handel might well be applied, what Boileau, with more truth than modesty, says of himself -- Et même en imitant toujours originel."

-- Source: Uvedale Price, "Essays on Decorations," in Essays on the Picturesque as compared with the Sublime and the Beautiful, Hereford 1798, II, 196.

He borrowed from Bononcini, who was his greatest rival at the time. Handel was rather unabashed about it, remarking, "It's much too good for him; he did not know what to do with it."

Those from whom he borrowed are now pretty obscure. He didn't steal from those contemporaries with whom he was either friends (Telemann, Gluck), or whom he revered (Bach).

Thanks for this insight, very interesting

Still like his stuff a lot. Maybe it is because that was the first classical music I ever heard (on a record of "Watermusic" and "Music for the Royal Fireworks" from my parents I heard as a child)

If you ever have a great stereo check out Frederick Fennell's recording of the Royal Fireworks music for wind band. It's speaker blowing material.
