            lol

            i know, but why? (seriously)
is i because you think that the states are better at handling the vast amount of issues facing people, or what? i personally think that they are untrustworthy middle men

then again i don't trust the federal government either, though in theory I'm for a centralized system

I believe that local political units can do better for their areas than larger ones. You have problems in huge political entities, such as the US, where they focus on some parts of the country to the detriment to all others. States are closer to the people.

Secondly, its a Constitutional issue. We gave the federal government limited powers and the states greater powers. Federal government is limited by what is granted under the Constitution. State government is unlimited except where denied to them by the people (through laws) or the federal Constitution.

AND, they are great experiments. It is far better to have a recall in California and see how that works out than to try it in the entire US.

These are a few of the reasons (except for the Constitution part) I support a limited EU, with individual states still holding prime power.

my basic belief is that the perfect goverment would be akin to a very responsive franchise operation...

you have the main organization providing standardized goods for the political consumers through its affiliates, but the local managers have some latitude in the implementation of certain things. I prefer smaller, less intrusive governments, that basically act as referees and judges for the most part.

God... a franchise operation? Have you ever been to a McDonalds?

No way I'd want my government that cookie cutter among the provinces of it.

I was thinking more along the lines of Papa John's lol,

If the government was being appropriately Jeffersonian, a cookie cutter approach with some flexibility built into the system wouldn't be that bad. However, I know that isn't going to happen anytime soon (like my lifetime). Nor is it ever going to be efficient either. It seems like our government has more bloat in it than all of the mylanta commercials put together.

I'd prefer a looser federation of states. A strong federal government, yes, but with lesser power than it has now.

Well, I certainly oppose environment! Lousy environment being all clean and proper... it's skulking on us, I say! Besides, I have it on a good source that the enviroment is communist and has connections to Al-Qaeda.

Also, I oppose fiscal responsibility. If the government doesn't spend money on frivolities like a bunch of drunken sailors, then the terrorists have already won! We certainly need agencies subsidizing poodle manicuring and Nigerian carpenty, a 75% tax cut for everybody named Keith.
