Mind you we do have Greek Society who hold a Greek night each March. £10 in as much wine as you can drink. Having a soc for foreigners studying from abroad seems like the limit though.

Racial clubs may be wrong, but then, they should be all banned

Do you arrest and detain people on random trumped up charges and then release them after a chaotic farce of a trial in which the entire proceddings are conducted without the aid of an interpreter.
Space is big. You just won't believe how vastly, hugely, mind- bogglingly big it is. I mean, you may think it's a long way down the road to the chemist's, but that's just peanuts to space.

              The NAACP are hypocrites. eg.:

"A local NAACP leader says Lisa McClelland's proposed club smacks of racial division...

What do they think they are doing?

I'm interested in why Boris would join, and MrFun would consider joining, a black student group? It doesnt make sense to me (aside from the party thing).

They are just pointing out the silliness of the Black clubs and such. Those are divisive as well. Yeah, whites can come by. But it is about racial identification, bottom line.

Reminds me about how pissed all the black people got about white people helping out in SNCC.

I do not think a white group is as usefull as a black groups, and this is why: the purpose of these groups is likely to explore issues pertient to this one group witin society: most ethnic groups happen to be minorities, and their experiences within the whole are different from the majorities, different enough that a group designed to help members deal with how being a minority one should relate to others in their group, other minorities, and specially to the whole.

The majority in essence lives the "normal" life so having a group alla bout people coming to, well, explore the normal life seems strange. Now, the other thing is that in general, 'whites' as a group I think are less likely to share some common thread of experience to make the group as usefull: culture based groups, like and Irish group, Italian, Russian, polish culture groups and such do have a better claim to being able to gather around a central theme of experiences

Now, as long as these groups allow anyone to join in trying to deal with this different thread of experiences that members in this one gorup feel they share, then I do not see how they can be seen as divisive.

Yeah, whites don't share common experiences because they don't congregate by race. All other races are racist!

"whites" are a made up race and to some extent so is 'black', and hispanic is a cultural group, NOT a racial group whatsoever.

The issue is shared experiences that make the group's experiences different from what is considered "normal". Any cultural group can claim these, and blacks in the US, due to their history, can claim this as well: but "whites"? What common thread defines their lives? Friends and J-lo?

well, i suppose she could set up a caucasian club, but she needs a sexier name for it.

i mean, most of the ethnic clubs i know of have ethnic names: like nia umoja, or loose roots, and so on.

Maybe they just want to sit around and ***** about affirmative action or even talk about 'Friends'. Who cares? The point is not why would they want one, the point is that if you allow black, latino, and asian clubs why should a white club be criticized by the NAACP as divisive?
