        My votes:

        Schild's Ladder
        The Mote in Gods Eye
The Years of Rice and Salt

Yes, once again I didn't vote for the book I nominated. Two of the above books I haven't read before, while the third (Mote) is a personal favorite of mine.

Books that I hated to not vote for:

        Firestar
        In Conquest Born
        A Fire Upon the Deep
        Armor
        Cyteen

By the way, for future consumption: Since the poll allows a max of 24 entries, if I get more than 24 nominations in future threads I'll just select the first 24 books nominated.

The Forever War and Tits-Out Teenager Terror Totty. Just can't resist a book with a bigger bodycount than the Bible.

Mainly cause I already own them so I won't have to stretch my budget.
Exult in your existence, because that very process has blundered unwittingly on its own negation. Only a small, local negation, to be sure: only one species, and only a minority of that species; but there lies hope. [...] Stand tall, Bipedal Ape. The shark may outswim you, the cheetah outrun you, the swift outfly you, the capuchin outclimb you, the elephant outpower you, the redwood outlast you. But you have the biggest gifts of all: the gift of understanding the ruthlessly cruel process that gave us all existence [and the] gift of revulsion against its implications.

BTW, I refuse to read Mote if it wins. Pournelle completely suckifies Niven's fiction. I've read Footfall, Beowulf's Children, and Burning City. All of them are inexcusable trash.

Mote is the exception that proves the rule, St. Leo. If it wins, give it a hundred pages and if you don't like it, return it to the library.
