  • College Football: Gamecocks Over Bulldogs; Irish Over Wolverines?

Some notable matchups this weekend. I'm looking forward to the ND v. Michigan, even though by all rights the Wolverines should roll right over ND.

There's OSU v. NC State, which might turn into a very good game.

Georgia v. South Carolina can always surprise you. Have to continue to hand it to Holtz--he can make his boys play champ ball.

    Va. Tech v. Texas A&M.

    How about Tennessee and Florida.

Missing any of the big ones?
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

Gamecocks over Bulldogs???? Heresy!!!!!!! Being a fanboy compels me to ignore GA's sloppy win last week and point to our near-perfect game vs. Clemson as evidence of how the mighty DAWGS will steamroll USC.

TN vs. FL - If a bomb goes off in the stadium, scattering both teams into radioactive dust, we all win.

Sadly, tragically, that ain't gonna happen. Honestly - I have no idea how to call this one. Is FL going to come out raging mad because of their loss last week... or are they going to fall apart because of their devastating loss last week? TN is still a big ? in my mind as I have never, ever cared for Casey Clausen. Somebody here in Knoxville is saying that CC has never lost an away game... which is true as long as you ignore his loss to GA last year and his Bowl game losses. If it is raining in Gainesville next week that doesn't bode well for Clausen, who has never won a game in the rain. FL gets a cupcake this week against FL A&M... if they don't pound the ball up and down the field all night on their way to a 40+ point victory spread this team is in serious trouble (not to mention Zook's job).

ND/MI - I like Tyrone Willingham a lot, so go ND!!!!! Otoh, my head says that MI will win... but college football is about heart and I think that Tyrone can pump his team up to meet the challenge.

NC State vs. OSU - I want OSU to lose for two reasons:

    1. So GA can move up in the polls (and no, I'm not assuming anything... why'd you ask?).
    2. So they can be exposed for the lucky, overrated SOB's that they are.

Penn State vs. NB - I remember a time not too long ago when this would be the premiere matchup for this weekend. I wonder what the over/under is for total pass attempts by both teams in this game - 7?

Purdue vs. Wake Forest - this weeks Cinderella (WF) makes way for next weeks Cinderella...

Illinois vs. UCLA - (I had to pick somebody to be next week's media darlings, didn't I?). I'll pick the Illini just for the pleasure of listening to Tony Bruno not complain about East Coast bias. Which is something Imran accused me of. Wrongly. It's not my fault that teams East of the Mississippi are so much better than those West of it.

OSU, lucky and overrated? success and winning speak for themselves. its about time OSU won a national championship after i was robbed so many times(mostly by michigan, which i blame solely john cooper for). For so long they have been near the top and finally they win it and its a fluke? no ****ing way.

I hope the irish lose. i had ND and the coverage they get just for being ND.

Hey, they have nearly a thousand wins consistently playing one of the toughtest schedules in college football. By your own standards re OSU, Notre Dame deserves all the attention given to them.

ND has nearly a thousand wins. Who do you root for?

Yes, my head says that is so as well. But if Holliday's passes are for a couple of yards longer each play (he had a 62% completion rate last week), and the running game is there from the beginning, rather than only the 4th quarter last week, I expect the defense to be able to make it good game.

Ever since Penn State joined the Big Ten they've not been winning as much. But they're always dangerous. Nebraska has to watch itself.

Hey, I thought I would put it out there and everybody could figure it out. No need to beat everybody over the head with the fact that the Big Ten is a tough conference to play in, especially since a lot of Big Ten teams play ND non-conference.

Some will ALWAYS argue on whether the Big 10 is a tough conference... but compared to the sister of the poor teams that used to fill much of Penn's schedule, the Big 10 teams are far tougher.

Well it isn't just a tougher schedule, because I don't recall Penn State having such a bad team right before they joined either. For some reason Paterno has had problems getting good players the last few years.

Oh, and in the 3rd Q, Arkansas is beating Texas by 2 TDs.

Also UNLV is kicking the CRAP out of #15 Wisconsin. And #12 Pittsburgh is tied with Ball State.
