It's 'Nazi' connotations are only in the fact that it was 'popularised' by them. Most people associate the German military with the Nazi's thats the way it goes.

Its a shame that the Swastika is also associated with them, despite being thousands of years old. The famous Asok of 300bc times adopted the swastika, in fact North Indian monuments were littered with that symbol. Its a spiritual symbol, reflecting change and the heavenly cycle.

But the Nazi's used it because it looked cool. Bastards.

So how are Erik von Rosen, Carl von Rosen and Clarence von Rosen related?

Well the Carl I know is the son of the Count Carl Von Rosen (3rd marriage I think) who formed the Abbysinian 'airforce' against the Italians and then the Biafran 'airforce' against the Nigerians. Erik (of Finnish airforce fame) was that Carls father and Carl Clarence (the equestrian) was Eriks father (I think).

I'd just like to say that 'Cross of Iron' was a cool flick.

And which one had the Goering connections? I ask 'cause they recently renamed the Swedish Football Championship trophy from The Von Rosen Trophy to The Lennart Johansson Trophy 'cause of the Nazi allegations levelled against Clarence.

Isn't it a shame that only a select few can be Nebraskans? I'd love it if everyone could be so blessed.

I pulled this off the web

"As a young man, Hermann Goering was a civilian pilot in Sweden, and in Munich in 1923 he married a Swedish woman, Carin von Kantzow, née Fock. Some time after the abortive Nazi putsch that year, the couple returned to Sweden. Carin Goering died in 1931, a few years after they had returned to Germany. While in Sweden, Goering belonged to the Anti-Semitic League. Subsequently he had numerous contacts with Swedish national socialists, above all within the National Socialist Bloc, in which organisation Count Eric von Rosen was a leading party official. Eric von Rosen’s wife Mary was the sister of Goering’s Swedish wife Carin, and his brother Clarence von Rosen was a personal friend of Hitler and Goering."

I've seen a picture of Goering with the Von Rosens taken at their family estate prior to the war. Carl's opinion was that it was understandable that his father (Carl-Gustaf) and Goering were 'friends'. Goering was married to his aunt (I guess it was) and they were mutual pilots at a time when it was not a common thing to do. Given his humanitarian exploits after WWII I find it very hard to believe he was a Nazi supporter. As for the other Von Rosens, I know nothing (except for Linne of course).

BTW it was Count Carl-Gustaf Von Rosen who flew with the Finns not Count Erik (as I mistakenly wrote).

But according to another website it was Erik (Eric?) who donated them!

Oh well. Anyway, the only von Rosen I'd heard of before was Clarence, the first chairman of the Swedish Football Association.
