  • 2 years since 11/9

In Britain, we have the day before the month

Tomorrow is the anniversary, where have we come since then?

Where were you when the attacks happened. I remember being in a psychology lesson that tuesday, when my phone went off, someone text'd me just after the first plane hit saying that NY had been bombed. My cousin was in NY at the time, so I was pretty concerned, so I persuaded the teacher to turn on the TV (which we used to play videos of sick psychologists experiments at Stanford Uni in the 60's). I fashioned an aeriel out of my friends hairclip.

What significance do these attacks have now, if any. Are current international actions motivated by this? Do people agree with my position that the Americans should just get over it, stop the crocodile tears and the patriotic "safety blanket", and deal with an unclouded judgement.

    Peace.

I was at home. Had an American friend over to stay. She was playing on the computer, in the early afternoon I was flicking around the TV. Saw some really impressive looking action movie effects on the TV, hung around to see what the film was.

    Realised it was real.

Watched kind of stunned all afternoon as the second plane hit, then news came that the pentagon was hit. Never thought the towers would collapse. Was very emotional. My friend had family in the rough area where the 4th plane went down (they didn't seem to know where that was for ages) and more who worked for the Coast Guard, we didn't know if he was in DC or not at the time.

Probably the most unbelievable, distressing and shocking thing I've ever seen in my life.

We watched until both towers collapsed, basically it was a case of to hell with the lessons. I think we were all in a state of shock. I was more angry than most people, but I got over that as soon as philosophical reason took over. I thought I should say that in case some of the people who think I'm an Al Qaeda sympathiser believe I was dancing in the street and burning the US flag on September 12.

I friend phoned me and told me to put sky news on, there'd been a accident in New York, watching the second plane hit 'live' was a almost surreal experience, all I could think was 'f$%k me!"

i was posting at poly when there was an explosion of threads about something about some wtc bulding and a plane.
turned on the TV and saw it. my initial reaction would have been "wow payback time", you know so distant and america, if not for the concerns and worries of americans here, which underlined the uncomfortable rality that real people were dieing

So it would seem. They would deny it of course. Blood lust isn't one of humanities best sides, nor is the "penis size" debate created by that.

This is not intended to be a memorial thread. I'm sure the mods won't delete it anyway because its such an important topic, and a difference in the discussions in both threads would probably warrant both. Still, not my call, I'll transfer to the other one if they toast this one. *pleading look*

I'm joking, really -- moderators have let multiple threads on similar topics stay open before.

To lock this thread would be utterly un-American, traitorous and would probably aid terrorism.

I was on holiday in Tunisia with my g/f on 11/9/01. We'd just come in from a day at the poolside and noticed some kind of fuss around the TV set in the lobby. Didn't bother to go and look.

When we came down for dinner about an hour later we noticed that even more people were around the TV and that some of them looked upset so we went to have a closer look....

Didn't see any of it happen live - IIRC the second tower had collapsed not long before we came downstairs. It was plenty disturbing enough seeing the endless re-runs though.
If I'm posting here then Counterglow must be down.
