Politics and media. By leaving the state, it becomes a major news event and something with which to rally the troops about the evil evil Republicans next year (nationwide, since the Dem's are being legislated out of Texas).

This is actually the most important domestic political event in the US so far this year, but because of the celebrity and kookiness factory of Califnornia, the media has dropped Texas. So much for a liberal agenda.

Frankly, I think representatives should be elected at large. Just vote for your party and the votes get split up by precentage. Then this kinda **** couldn't happen.

Exactly Che. If there were no districts, there wouldnt be any problems. Vote for a party, and for every percentage point they get, they send one member to the state legislation. For every 0.1% point nationally, the party sends one person to the House of Reps. Keep the senate the way it is.

Yeah, it has never worked the other way, with Dems gerrymandering districts to keep them in power. Why, that would be beneath them!!!!!!!

I remember one heavily Democratic district in the State of Georgia... the district ran from a lower income neighborhood in Atlanta, down 100+ miles on I-20 (where the only thing within the district was the highway - not the exits) to a lower income neighborhood in Augusta. I'm sure that one came about because of natural historical and geographical processes.
