  • Bush Admin using minorities as canon fodder?

Is this the final proof that Bush is no better than Sadaam, the man he worked so hard to prove as the worst mass-murderer since Adolph Hitler? Will Americans finally unite to throw out the corrupt Bush junta? How long can Americans stand for a man who wants no less than the total destruction of the entire world? Time will tell....

Will the left ever recover it's deep psychosis and regain touch with reality? Time will tell.

The Pentagon says that there are 37,401 non-US citizens on active duty, and that joining up has a special incentive for them — an American passport.

      Active duty != Iraq "frontlines".

      Pathetic.
No, I did not steal that from somebody on Something Awful.

what does this got to do with Bush? weren't presidents doing this for decades? soldiers/casaulties in Vietnam sorted by race showed a disproportionate percentage of blacks in the military. now in 2003, it seems hispanics have the largest disproportionate percentage...

which is why we should have mandatory conscription.

Read about this somewhere else, presented in a much more moderate and reasonable manner...and saw nothing inherently "wrong" with it (to the contrary).

a significant minority of troops fighting under the US banner are not in fact US citizens but residents hoping to speed up their citizenship.

                WHO WOULD HAVE THOUGHT?!?!

Well, given the long term debate about the including modern works of art by minorities in classes about Western Culture, I'd bet that Tony Morrison, Maya Angelou, et al are glad that Bush is promoting their work.

                  Take that, Allen Bloom!

Pathetic, Monkey-spider-brain, Ask MtG is he felt like an oppressed minority being used as cannon fodder, and he was already a citizen.

Proportionally, there are more minorities in the US military than the percentages of the general population. But this isn't a Bush issue. Elitist America, which is primarily white, uses everyone else to fight its wars... but minorities aren't singled out, poor whites make up the majority of the US's Armed Forces, IIRC. It just so happens that a greater percentage of minorities are not in the affluent classes. This is nothing new. If anything, I think it's improved since Vietnam when poor whites and minorities were drafted to fight another unjust war. At least now, America's grunts are mostly gullible volunteers who get brainwashed into thinking they are defending freedom or poorer kids looking for college money, when they are little more than a political tool for whoever is in power.

If anything, I thought this thread was about Bush using Afghan's as cannon fodder against the Taliban. One of the biggest reasons we can't get bin Laden is that we are relying on the Camel Cavalry in Afghanistan because Bush doesn't want to put enough boots on the ground to do the job. Part of this is because Musharaf is in a pickle and Bush doesn't want to spark a fundamentalist takeover in Pakistan (which would probably happen if 100,000 US troops landed in the border region), and I doubt the American public would like to see even more troops and money being pissed away in some foreign war. But, I suspect that winning the war on terror will require much more troops, money, and commitment than the American public would like.

That's pretty much my feeling. Either put more troops on the ground to do the job right, or get out. None of this middle of the road bull****.
To us, it is the BEAST.

a half-assed job is better than none...

and yeah we need to have universal conscription. it's sickening to think that only a single member of Congress has a child in the military.
