  • The $1 trillion law suit.

Time has an interesting article about the government of Saudi Arabia along with its past and present attitude towards Islamic terror. Much of it is stuff we already know like how the Saudis finianced Islamic terror throughout the world and set up schools to teach hate and jihad throughout the muslim world but there are a few good new tidbits.
In a new book, Why America Slept, author Gerald Posner quotes U.S. officials as saying a key al-Qaeda operative in U.S. custody, Abu Zubaydah, told his interrogators that al-Qaeda had an explicit deal with the Saudi royals to desist from violence in the kingdom in exchange for Saudi financing. Abu Zubaydah is said to have claimed that bin Laden told him he had made the deal in 1991 with Prince Turki al-Faisal bin Abdul Aziz, the longtime Saudi intelligence chief. Posner writes that Abu Zubaydah claimed to have attended several meetings with Turki and bin Laden in Afghanistan and Pakistan.
The funny thing is President Bush blacked out the section of the Congressional report on the 9/11 attacks which dealt with Saudi Arabia when has been proven that Prince Turki al-Faisal bin Abdul Aziz, a member of the Saudi royal family and the Minister of Intelligence, directly went to OBL and agreed to funnel money to Al Qaeda. Reportedly Prince Turki al-Faisal bin Abdul Aziz has continued to help Al Qaeda since 9/11 but at a much reduced amount and the Prince still holds his position as head of the Saudi Intelligence agency.

As a result of the Saudi government's direct involvement in financing Al Qaeda 600 families who lost loved ones in the 9/11 attacks have filed a civil suit against the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia asking for $1 trillion in damages. So what do you folks think? Does this suit have merit? The Saudis are of course claiming they had nothing to do with Al Qaeda but they're the same losers who officially blamed "Zionists & Jewish conspirators" for 9/11 for the whole first year following 9/11.

Here's another interesting quote from that Time article; this one shows just how ****ed up the educational system is in the Arab world.

Like the mosques, Saudi schools have been the subject of scrutiny. Saudi textbooks have been laced with passages that not only extol the supremacy of Islam but also denigrate nonbelievers. An eighth-grade book states that Allah cursed Jews and Christians and turned some of them into apes and pigs. Ninth-graders learn that Judgment Day will not come "until the Muslims fight the Jews and kill them." A chapter for a 10th-grade class warns Muslims against befriending non-Muslims, saying, "It is compulsory for the Muslims to be loyal to each other and to consider the infidels their enemy."

I don't know. The evidence hasn't even been presented yet. No depositions taken, etc.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

The government is hostile (for good reasons) to this suite, so the likelyhood of it going far is low.

I thought this thread was going to be about the ownership of Manhatten.
