I just pissed all over Starbucks above, so that's a non-issue. Starbucks is perhaps the most overrated crap out there.

I can get fresh-roasted gourmet coffee at pretty reasonable prices here. Generally, small producers will satisfy better.

Try running a coffee grinder at 7 AM when your roommate sleeps until 10-11.

Besides, it's not just the minute of grinding...you've got the clean-up time. Grinders can be messy.

If you're getting too many grounds, don't grind it so fine. If you're using one of those chopper-type griners, spend the extra money and get a proper mill.

Let it sit. A little bit of grounds in the coffee is no biggie. Don't be a sensative American. Have a multi-cub press. The bottom cup will have some grounds, but the others should be relatively ok. Just don't drink the very last bit of the last cup.

If you push it down fast, that is no big deal. Most of the brew happens in first few seconds. But it will be a bit better with more contact time. It's very similar to a gravity Melitta filter.

When I was in college, the university cafeteria was selling "Cloud Nine" Chocolate bars, one of which was "Espresso Bean Crunch".

That's right. A chocolate bar that used whole espresso beans the way Nestles Crunch uses crisped rice. I was in love.

Sometimes I'll just grab a few whole beans and munch them. Mmmmm, memories.

Push the bar over your chest like you were going to do a bench press

              Lower the bar

As it's coming down towards your chest, bend your elbows in like you were going to do a skullcrusher and let the bar hit you in the head

Push the bar back up to starting position

This will really work the triceps.

I use Melitta filters with a "cafetière" (I guess that would translate as "coffee machine" or something). That's the device where you pour water (any temperature) into a small barrel, put a Melitta filter in another and put the coffee on the filter. The water will become warmer and will automatically pour in the coffee-ridden filter, making a good coffee in the end.

I use a soupspoon of coffee per mug.

Coffee that dissolves directly into hot water is evil.

Avoid to have your water boil at all costs

I use a one cup filter.

I used to have a posh Italian espresso machine, but I gave it away when I moved to Canada. Still the best though.
