Can someone write a nice essay on the history of metal music?

1970 - 2 bands save rock'n'roll in a time of soft rock and pop crap - Deep Purple with Smoke on the Water and Black Sabbath with Paranoid.

The former mark the beginning of the hard rock genre, the latter coin the metal era.

The 70s are full of experimenting, ending with the New Wave of British Heavy Metal ("NWOBHM").

Metallica was founded in 1981. You don't need to know any more beyond this point

Pantera doesn't suck. Well their new stuff sucks.

I would suggest the album Vulgar Display of Power

Sepulturua of course rocks. I even like their new stuff a little- but it's not nearly as heavy as their old stuff. Chaos AD is still my favourite album from them.

never listened to Opeth. May have to try some of those other bands.

metal rules!! But I also listen to 80's pop music . I also listen to some blues, blues rock, and classic rock, and a little bit of classical and jazz.

you have to get Blizzard of Oz though.

Diary of a Madman is another good album.

No More Tears isn't bad as well.

And yes I do like new Metallica. Their new album rocks. Some of the lyrics are cheesy- especially in that damn purify song. I can't stand the lyrics of that song. But it still rocks.

I like some Metallica songs, and I liked Opeth, and especially one Dutch group which doesn't exist anymore. Except for that, I have several Dream Theater and one Sepultura albums, but that's not quite metal, is it?

Never really liked metal, although I don't mind System Of A Down...

i wouldn't worry about liking metal. IT gets boring if you listen to it to much.

Earthi wind and fire are MUCH better.

Music = good, singing = bad. Since I can't seem to get into growling vocals, I just can't listen to Opeth. I know, it's my loss.

Download some blues Siro. It's a good way to wind down from a metal high.

                                we didn't get Creeping Death

however they also played at some Berlin festival a few days earlier, and there they also did Creeping Death

so don't be confused if you find another Berlin playlist
