  • Scanner help

Hi there, i know this isnt a computer forum but here goes
In the need of ID,my friend has kindly loaned me his scanner for some time, in which i can scan all the ID under the sun. 'Pararell port' he says, no problem i think.

Come to use it tonight and i'm ****** if i know how to conect this, i have a couple of leads but they dont fit both ends?!?!
Am I supposed to do it as follows
Computer - Printer (via USB!?) - Scanner

    Help!
    Cheers
    Matt

Try connecting the scanner directly to the computers parallel (or printer) port... Or describe what cables he gave you (pins/holes on each end). Maybe he gave you a SCSI by mistake but we can find that out later.

Is your scanner plugged into a power outlet, sir?

Is the power cable snugly connected to the scanner, sir?

Is the USB cable connected to the computer, sir?

Is the USB cable firmly connected to the scanner, sir?

      Try rebooting, sir.

      Try rebooting once more, sir.

Okay, I want you to uninstall all of your printers and delete Microsoft Office and all associated documents, then reboot.

It still doesn't work? It must be a problem with your hardware.

Thank you for calling, have a nice day.

Lovely help there Asher - You've exceeded my expectations.

          Anyway
he didnt give me any cables, but i assumed these were printer cables(??)
One end will go into a printer, the other end will go into a computer OR a scanner , hence no way to connect PC-Scanner direct.

          ??????

You probably need a SCSI cable instead of a Printer Cable. They look alike and have fooled me many a time. What would fix the answer exactly would be the model of scanner- what exactly does the writing on it say?

                it's a Primax Colorado 9600...
the cable seems to hook up to the Printer which in turn can hook up to the PC via USB, but that bizzare idea didnt seem to work

That's wired (get it, wired ).

I'm on the Primax(.nl) site and it doesn't say anything about scanner-printer-computer... you don't have a straight USB cable or straight Parallel cable, do you?

Scanner - Printer - PC was just my own idea, since i coudnt get Scanner to link to PC anyway - please forgive my stupidity.
i have 2 standard USB cables and 2 Printer cables, but it seems i need a SCSI cable , must go buy one soon.

I'll just have to wait to withdraw my winnings
Thank you for you help on this Issue MattH

                      Sorry I didn't understand- I was about to .

I didn't see any Colorado SCSI scanners on the list @ the primax site. Ask a salesperson or whoever's handy. They look nearly alike.
