Actually, i would like to modify that statement. Not all of north england is so terrible. Newcastle and Sheffield are good. I fact, most of the big cities are good. Only places involving farmers and incomprehensible accents are that bad.

I think this may indicate that we look for different things in a town, 'cos they are both horrible.

          Thanks for the link Bods

Being from Lancaster I can verify there are lots of Amish.

Hey Vince, you got a cool shopping mall in Lancaster from what I remember. A nice little round section of restaurants and cafes. There's a Chinese in there too, that I got something from to eat. I remember being in the Timberland shop there too. The roads, a mess...

But this is about the Lancaster is northern England thanks.

My friend went there for uni a long time ago and I visited a couple of times. The town seemed OK, very historic architecture, nice bookshops etc IIRC...

The campus is one of those ugly 60's things a few miles out of town, so transport is a necessity!

He ended up living in Morecambe for a while, but that is a dump of unimaginable proportions!

He seemed to enjoy his time at uni...

BTW Sheffield is an ugly dump as well! I was there yesterday on business - UGH! (though some parts did look nice and cities all over the UK seem to be enjoying a rennaissance these days...)
Is it me, or is MOBIUS a horrible person?

You're probably referring to the Park City Mall just outside of town. I still remember its first year (1968?), it had wall-to-wall carpeting and a skating rink in the lower level with viewable ceilings. I met Darth Vader there in 1978.

The roads are better now (somewhat).

I've always been curious about the original Lancaster. What can someone tell me about it?

Lancaster Uni is good for sciences, as the research rating suggested. My Cousin studies Maths there, and was chosen to go for a year out to the States in a national competition thingy. He speaks pretty highly of Lancaster (City?). The town I have no idea about, but the Uni is great for sciences.

                              Lancaster is...in Lancashire.
                              -5 right off the bat.
Still, the uni is pretty nice - I have a friend who went there and he liked it. The town itself is pretty small and homely (in both senses of the word...), at least compared to Preston. It's okay for a day visit, don't know what it's like to live there though.
However, the one-way system is Satan incarnate. You sit there for hours muttering 'mustn't go over the bridge, mustn't go over the bridge, mustn't go over the bridge'...until you realise you went over the bridge half an hour ago and are now halfway to Carnforth.
"Love the earth and sun and animals, despise riches, give alms to every one that asks, stand up for the stupid and crazy, devote your income and labor to others, hate tyrants, argue not concerning God, have patience and indulgence toward the people, take off your hat to nothing known or unknown . . . reexamine all you have been told at school or church or in any book, dismiss whatever insults your own soul, and your very flesh shall be a great poem and have the richest fluency" - Walt Whitman
