    Evolution is not necessarily an accumulation of adaptations; rather, it is the change in gene frequencies over time. Not all modifications that occur that the genetic level are adaptive -- this is an example of the flaws of the 'adaptionist paradigm'.

    The population that is the most efficient at utilizing resources and reproducing will definitely have an advantage over other populations w/o those abilities.

    Microorganisms have the strongest adaptive capability since their generation time (time between generations) is very short. Because of this, the # of potential mutations by sexual reproduction and other means within a unit time will be exponentially greater the # of mutations of eukaryotes.
