I don't know about giving this guy the death penalty.. if anyone deserves it, surely he does, but look at his eyes, he welcomes death. Probably thinking about the 40 whores Allah is going to provide him with in paradise for his 'great deed'.
If possible, these guys should be, for lack of a better word, defiled in such a way that they believe they're going to hell when they die. Of course, it would be pretty damn hard to try to find something that would make a guy who has been responsible for the death of 200 people believe that. If you don't believe you're going to hell for a crime as heinous as Bali, it's hard to know what would shake him.
I say they should have given him a liftetime in solitary. It probably would have had more of an effect on him. I hear conditions in Indonesian prisons are... not pleasant...

everybody reacts like as to take revenge; convicting isn't about revenge but about condemning someone and as a sign that that behaviour isn't tolerated by the government.
you shouldn't give him life imprisonment because it would supposedly be worse than death penalty, but because he deserves the worst penalty for his crime and not because of revenge; killing people is immoral so that's why you shouldn't give him the death penalty..
what has revenge ever solved? in like 95% of these cases the violence just worsens and worsens.. check out Israel and Palestine; they kill a few palestinians and destroy some housing and Hamas sends a new suicide bomber, Israel retaliates etc etc...
