      Who was joking?
“I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”

It is more than just getting re-elected.

You can only serve 8 years.

One would think after you are re-elected once, you would just sit back and chill and enjoy the perks of being president .

Why do anything your second term?

There is always a motive. Clinton had a motive when he pardoned those bad people at the end of his second term.

There are many examples of Bush being pragmatic or idealistic. I feel that his idealistic side comes out in so-called "Christian" issues. Such as:
            1) His recent comments on gay marrage
            2) His faith-based charity system
            3) His linking of aid to anti-abortionism
            4) His comments on the public placement of the 10 commandments

In fact, I heartily believe that Bush is the first "Christian Republican" president, as opposed to the standard Republican line. This break began, IMHO with Regan, where the traditional Republican view of small government, privacy, isolationism, fiscal discipline, and lazie-faire business were turned on their head.
