Maybe some people don't want to get to know everyone in the neighborhood. Perhaps some people just want to be left alone and not be the subject of gossip and nosey neighbors.

Nah, I'll be having fun with my friends in my house. Just because people live next to you doesn't mean they'd make good friends. Maybe it's different for you, but everyone who lives around me is an *******. Let me give you an example...

The people next door, to my left, are in their late 40's/early, one kid who has moved out. These people are nice, but weird. They sit in their house and smoke pot. They keep to themselves.

To my right, there is an older couple (40's) with three kids ages 6-13. Reasonably nice people, but they don't share any of my interests.

To my right, 2 houses down, are a weird family. They also have poor hygiene and their house is a disaster.

To my left, 2 houses down, on the end of my cul-da-sac, is a very scary ultra-conservative family. They own 2 huge SUV's covered in American flags; and have bought 2 of their three boys, ages 14-17-18, their own SUV's. 4 SUV's, 27 American flags, and they are really *******s.

I'm sorry, but my neighborhood sucks. There's maybe 4 people within 2 square miles that are in my age group.

Yes -- but where did you get the idea that I assume every neighbor would make a good friend.

You can improve your neighborhood and your own awareness of your community through networking and socializing, yes.
