  • Do different types of alcohol affect you differently?

I mean this regardless of proof. I can have three shots of Tequila and be none the wiser, but if I have three shots of gin, I'm knocked on my ass.

So do different types of alcohol affect you differently?

    Naturally.

Beer makes me tired, because of all the hop in it.

Vodka just makes me go all parrrr-tayyyyy

Wine is real cool, not as dumb as Vodka and less sleepy than beer.

Tequila effect I don't even feel, it just makes you smooth <-- dangerous though

NO, in this sense of ethanol is the stuff in alcoholic drinks that gets you smashed.

YES, in the sense that the other stuff in the drink affects the hit.

For instance, Champagne gets you drunk quicker because the bubbles help the booze into your bloodstream.

Guiness is actually a slow one to get drunk on, because the carbohydrate in the beer takes extra effort for the stomach to digest.

Maybe the tequila was watered? Maybe the gin had fizzy tonic water?

I almost start tripping from too much tequila, very dangerous stuff.
( not talking about 3 shots here )

Well, I think that I have a certain tequila tolerance built up, while I'm just starting out with gin. Perhaps our bodies adjust?

I know that a French friend of mine could drink more wine than any of us, but we destoyed him when it came to whiskey.

These are good examples. Also, your system digests warm booze faster than cold.

I've been a bartender for 8 years. I always made it a point to drink ice-cold shots, to keep from getting drunk too fast. Otherwise it's hard to count-out your register at closing time.

and to be chemically precise, yes.

different types of alcohol are methanole, ethanole, propanole, ... [/panag]

                methanole makes you go blind

                ethanole makes you go drunk

anything above should be highly toxic. might be mistaken.

absinthe also affects differently fom most alcohols. it's because it contains another agent.

I used to love Tequila and take shots with no effect... now I can't really handle pure tequila shots, don't really know why...

Brandy and rum are the drinks I can most easily handle. In fact, I'm writing this with about 10 glasses of brandy and coke (the drink not the drug ) in my system. However, vodka and whisky tend to knock me down much easier.

Worst hangovers for me: vodka, wine and beer. Everything else is manageable. Rum tends to give you "rum-breath" all the next day but no so bad on headaches and tiredness the next day.
