It sure isn't the enlisted people.
why is enlistment mandatory? or is it voluntary? why do u think they don't win? because someone is rich means that people who aren't are losers? or by definition can not do things willingly(like join the military). to help themselves succeed?

Do you know anything about the Ibn Saud? Iraq has way more military heft than the Saudis. They needed a protector. They weren't too crazy about the Iranians either.
In 2000, Saudi Arabia spent more on defense than Israel, France, India, Germany, Brazil, Iran, Italy or South Korea. They ranked sixth in the world. Iraq spent a pittance.

Well that is irreleavant. What is important is the threat that their forces pose. SA is well-renowned for spending lots of money on snazzy planes and having a crappy army. Stop thinking like a civ player.

I bet their army was still a helluva lot better than Iraq's though.

A new phrase in the right wing's vocabulary of rhetoric

'stop thinking like a civ player'

Scene: Head to head TV debate during presidential campaign

Democratic Challenger: Could Mr Bush tell me why the US needed to defend Saudi Arabia by attacking Iraq

George Bush: I FIND IT INBELIEVEABLE THAT YOU WOULD MAKE SUCH A COMMENT...STOP THINKING LIKE A CIV PLAYER!

I thought we were talking about the recent conflict, not the original Gulf War. I think the reference to the year 2000 threw me off.

It could hardly be crappier than Iraq's, unless having advanced American equipment and training is a disadvantage these days.

Oh, it doesn't bother me. I just like to tell people facts that others are a bit lean with - and the reasons why people are "economical with the truth".

Anyway, if the US military plays home, nobody is fussed. It's when they play away the world holds it's breath.

It isn't, as you well know.

It is, as you well know. What's your subject, "obvious facts"?

Because they risk their lives for a pittance, a pat on the back and - if they survive - an education leading to a pension. Sounds like a sh1tty deal to me, compared to the shareholder class who never risk their lives, never enter a combat zone, and are most likely to die of an obesity related illness.

No. Those are your words, not mine. However, the enlisted people are clearly not onto as good a deal as the corporate shareholders. It's not a winners/losers relationship - but one side is clearly onto a massively better thing than the other.

As I said earlier in the same post, I am not dissing the US military. You seem to have a partial blindness for posts.

If you want to promote the military's successes and achievement programs, that's fine by me.

HOWEVER, don't you dare bang on about defence spending without highlighting who gets the biggest slice for the least amount of effort.

Maybe you shoud look up origin of word "apt" before saying that.
