  • Teach me computers

    1) I was installing a new program and noticed in the install/uninstall place that there are programs listed there that were already uninstalled or deleted, just not this way. When I try to delete it, there is an error thing appearing. Why is that so, and how can I get rid of
    this problem?

    2) When I open my comp, a lot of windows open each time. My sister is probably responsible. How can I turn it off?

    2) (My Windows is in Spanish I will try to translate)

    - Open Explorer or any folder you have around.
    - Go to "Tools"
    - Open the second tab
    - Scroll all the way down, you should see "Restore windows and folders on restart "
    - Disable it.

Forgot about that, you will need another program to remove them. Try this one, it´s free.

          point 1:

Does the error message say that it can't find certain files or folders? If not, can you post the error message? I'll assume for now that it does...

When you take a program off your computer do you always properly uninstall it (ie. using the program's own uninstaller or Windows' one?), or do you just delete the folders from your hard drive?

If it's the latter then I think we've just found your problem.

            Start > Programs > Startup

If there's a load of useless crappy programs in there then delete the shortcuts from that folder and reboot.

OK. It's exactly the thing. Still, I want to get rid of the stuff. Can I?

RegCleaner is a good free program for deleting those unwanted leftovers. Were you a mac user (which might explain not using the uninstallers) ?

                  RegCleaner v. 3.8 (413 Kb)

With RegCleaner you can easily get rid of those old and obsolete registry entries created by software that you have destroyed ages ago.

You don´t have to be an expert to use this program. Note that this program is not like those other so called registry cleaners, they search any filenames from registry, then if the file doesn´t exist anymore they remove the registry key or value where this filename was.

But RegCleaner shows you the list of software that are registered in the registry and by checking checkboxes you select which software you don´t have anymore and RegCleaner removes all registry created by those programs automatically.

You can also remove start up programs that are started behind your back and can dramatically decrease your computer´s performance.

Small in size, free and very easy to use!

Where can I find this program? Nope, I'm not a mac user. I'm just untidy when it comes to computers

Y'know, when the goals open and there's only an old lady with a metal leg defending, but she's having some kind of seizure you don't HAVE to score.
