  • The Saudis

I don't get it, according to news reports about the 9/11 inquirey, the Saudi government as good as sponsored the attacks of the twin towers. So how come the current US administration is still chummy with em?

    some points

Saudi money used to fund the Al Qaeda operation
Saudi intelligence had knowledge of the attack
Saudi citizens carried out the attack
Bin Ladens family is even close to the House of Saud, and OBL himself was considered a national hero in Saudi even before the attacks.

So, conspiracy theorize starting from.... now!

But if it was just oil, the US coud'nt have a better excuse to go in there and Regime Change Saudi Arabia directly... (what are the muslims gonna do about it with no Saudi funds?)

It costs less to just bribe those murdering ****ers into helping us. Imagine the headaches of "regime changing" Saudi Arabia. SA isn't Iraq... you're talking about Mecca... and most of the Muslim holy lands. Unless you want a billion Muslims blowing themselves up (rather than the minority in Al Qaeda, etc); I would leave Saudi Arabia alone.

Believe me, I want those Saudi ****ers gone... but such an endeavor would be a war of civilizations. And would lead to Armageddon, IMO.

I'd much rather see the US become independent in terms of energy production. But it won't happen because the people that are making money from oil are the same people writing our foreign policy.

it was more about power than anything.

saddam isn't well liked, and weaker.
the saudis are sorta well liked, and stronger.

thus, we go after the weaker one, withdraw our troops from saudi arabia and move them to iraq, so the saudis are more well liked and happier; and we get a friendly base to project power into the middle east.

The mind boggles as to how the interim post Saud govt would handle the pilgrims.

A lot of pilgrims go there every year. How could US ground forces cope without sparking WW3?

Not an easy puzzle, is it?

Also, such intervention in SA might spark a more fundamentalist push in Pakistan... and they have the bomb...

                    Conspiracy theory number 754,329,567

With Saddam gone and a US supported buffer state between Iran and the arab ME countries the Saudis will be on their own to face internal dissent without external distractions for the muslim radicals whilst the US and allies have a secure oil supply if Saudi goes down.

Helping to pick up the pieces after a country has had a nice bloody civil war is a lot more acceptable than invading.

Objective - a divided arab/muslim world. Objective accomplished!

Are you sure they´re liked? When I was in Jordan and Egypt, most people there said the Saudis are arrogant rich bastards. Of course I can´t say how widely these views are shared within the Arab world...

HOLY MOLY! I have to agree with SAVA, write it down in the books. Mecca is the reason we don't attack Saudi and Saddam of course gave us better reasons that is somewhat palatable to Muslims considering Saddam is the biggest Muslim killer in recent history. I believe our presence in the ME, which this war is about, will quell the ME turmoil against the USA, in years to come, no easy task.
