  • Getting quite sad isn't it... :/
For there is [another] kind of violence, slower but just as deadly, destructive as the shot or the bomb in the night. This is the violence of institutions -- indifference, inaction, and decay. This is the violence that afflicts the poor, that poisons relations between men because their skin has different colors. - Bobby Kennedy (Mindless Menance of Violence)

    • You know. This was a really good thread going on. I had to drive a few hours to pick up my son and was really interested to which way the debate had gone. What a pity that one of the biggest thread jackings ever came about. I just have one statement to make: It is not only okay for us to disagree and debate, it is the preferable way to exchange information to reach a conclusion. I've had my mind changed by some insightful and clear thinking by people I originally disagreed with. I have never had it changed by someone throwing insults and making threats. Something to keep in mind unless you have such low self esteem and lack of facts that you must resort to this strategy.

Mtg...Impressive display of firepower, to say the least.
"I am sick and tired of people who say that if you debate and you disagree with this administration somehow you're not patriotic. We should stand up and say we are Americans and we have a right to debate and disagree with any administration." - Hillary Clinton, 2003

      • Bush will probably win another term. There is no Democrat that looks that strong.

It's kinda like Blair vs. Iain Duncan-Smith or something .
“I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”

A lot of Republicans are not racist, but a lot of racists are Republican.

          • Well, the positive thing about Bush getting re-elected, is that I'll be able to tell my kids, "Yeah, right after the millenium, we had the worst 8 years." Eventually we'll get a good progressive president who will straighten all this crap out.

I can see it now... I'll be sitting in front of a fireplace with, perhaps, my grandchildren...

"Grampa Sava, was it true people believed that giving rich people money helped the economy?"

"Yes, little Sava III, evil greedy corporate robber barons once controlled the nation for long stretches of time... they brainwashed good, moral people into believing trickle down economics worked. The 80's and after the start of the new millenium... were bad times for America... record unemployments, massive deficits, wars for political gain; but eventually, smart Americans realized one party was controlled by these criminals and the other paid lip service to those of us who detested them. Then **futurepolitician** campaigned to the people and was able to reform the political system so that everyone's voice could be heard. You see, America didn't become a free country overnight. I took almost a hundred years and a war to end slavery, 50 more until women could vote, 50 more until we started to see civil rights legislation, and nearly 50 more before we stopped corporations from running the country. But eventually, America became a truly free nation where everyone had health care, education, and justice... America became like a small town, where everyone cared about each other"

ahhh yes... I know it's silly, but such a vision of the future is one that keeps me going. I have hope that evil ****ers like Dubya, Cheney, Rummy, and company, will eventually be gone.

            • Sava,

They haven't convinced anyone that trickle down economics works. Just the opposite.

March of 2003? You haven't been to these forums long enough. I dare you to say Clinton's 1993 budget was responsible for much of the job growth and economic prosperity in the 90's and you'll have several mouth-breathing nitwits chanting, "It was Reagans policies!".

                • Sava, fortunately for all of us you can't infringe your "beliefs" on a nation of 280 million.

Christianity: The belief that a cosmic Jewish Zombie who was his own father can make you live forever if you symbolically eat his flesh and telepathically tell him you accept him as your master, so he can remove an evil force from your soul that is present in humanity because a rib-woman was convinced by a talking snake to eat from a magical tree...
