Thank you for your question. The sad occurence of mental trauma during childhood can be quite a reference post of psychiatric pain in any of our following years. Yet there is no reason to believe that this was in any way your fault, or that you are alone in experience.
I myself am able to relate one of the deepest problems from my own youth; when my father came about a responsibility kick and had me scrubbing out the bathtub with lye daily. Being the scientific child I was (this was at the age of nine after my grandmother had given me a chemistry set and chemical encycopedia for labour day) I obtained a red phosphorous agent, iodine, and muriatic acid - and began to mix them in the lye covered bathtub. Needless to say, a relatively noxious and corrosive gas was suddenly released into the air and into the central venting system of our household, which proceeded to render my entire family unconscious for a 90 second duration.
This understandbly caused confusion and fear in my parents, even costing my mother an essential china dish from her set when she fell down three (3) stairs and onto the landing proceeding the garage from the kitchen. My father was quick to punish me without television until I was 16, shortly after dressing my wounds and burn based abcesses created from the reaction.
What I would recommend for you is a daily 3 gram intake of tryptophan before bedtime, followed by 3 square meals the next. This will increase your light sensitivity, which is crucial - but that is another topic entirely.
