Ah, woot. Recognizing notes has always been my weakest point. (The only note I can recognize without anything to go off of is the 'D' below the bass cleff, since that note was "my job" in undergrad choir. I've got to extrapolate from there, which is difficult to do when most notes are a few octaves higher.)

      loinburger's a bass? woot!

Well, you got it pretty close. Reminds me of my college years when people would come up to me and say, "what's that one tune that goes..." and start humming, or "what's the opera where the girl's the whore..." and the like.

This could be a new version of a game thread- stump Boris!

Are you any relation to the guy who could tell what the classical album was just by looking at the grooves on the record?

            Grooves? Records? Was ist das?

I'm sure someone could come up with relatively obscure classical selections I wouldn't recognize, especially stuff from Hadyn, Handel and the like. Dvorak's 9th is a popular warhorse, though, so the tune was easy to recognize.

I could have added "Scoop of chocolate, scoop of vanilla, don't waste my time," but why be cocky?

I tried to find one I liked by telling someone (who claimed to be knowledgeable on classical music):
'Its the tune in the original Rollerball film, when the two teams come out'

Rather than just tell me he didn't know, the snob told me it was Beethoven!

when I used to have a managable playlist ~1000 songs, I used to play this game with my friend.

he'd pick a random song and play it for 3 seconds, and I'd have to guess it..... I could usually get 75% right but now as my playlist approaches 2200 its become significantly harder

Good taste. I have it as music for when I play Civ3.

If anyone else has mysterious classical tunes they need help with, give it a shot! Of course, without loinburger's notation, it could be tough...
