It is hard for me to speculate on this matter. For MBTs to be in contued use, they must get stronger and lighter armor, but its hard for me to imagine anything harder than they already have. I would also imagine that any of the various anti-tank devices that work well on tanks, could work REAL well on mechs... as i you would need is a hit on some of the servos or hydrolics to take it out, or so it owuld seem.
I see a distant future dominated by a combination of aerial and walking/rolling drones that are fully armed and very nimble. Think Terminator. There would be much fewer soldiers in harms way, and the drones would be immune to small arms fire. If massed produced, they could overwhelm the much less technilogically sophisticated enemies. They could easily navigate indoors as well as crosscountry. Their mobility, speed, and firepower will all be greatly enhanced by eliminating humans from the roll. They may still be needed for remote control operators or maybe the drones could be fully automated... i dont know, but in the distant future, who knows. Any one see "the Red Planet" with val kilmer? That robotic navigator AMEE is something like what im thinking of, but with guns.
The fear of Urban warfare would be a thing of the past. send in a division of droids. sure, a lot would be lost, but very few lives (you would still need human mechanics and support and stuff).
Yup..... They're called planes. They work real good.
If you wanna win wars, you have to have an occupying force. planes cannot occupy. Thats why it is really, really, really hard to win wars without any ground forces that can hold ground.
in the not really distant future, as energy sources become more powerful and miniaturized, you can see the chemical propelled projectile go obsolete after centuries, in favor of the much more powerful electromegnetically propelled projectiles

For those who aspire to live in a high cost, high tax, big government place, our nation and the world offers plenty of options. Vermont, Canada and Venezuela all offer you the opportunity to live in the socialist, big government paradise you long for. –Senator Rubio
MOst likely, wars in the future will be minimal, given the widespread arsenals of deadly bio-engineered plagues and other assorted nasty doomsday weapons meant to keep actual fighting to a minimum.

what was that quote form the military school comandant in the simpsons?
somethn to the effect of:
"After graduating here today, you will go off to fight the wars of the future, which will not be fought by men in the battle fields or high ocean seas, but by robots on really tall mountains, or perhaps outer space. And it will be your job to build and maintain those robots..."
these mech things... are the like the Goliaths in StarCraft? or the things in that show Exo-Squad?
if so, i don't see any practical benefit of them... maybe the exo-squad ones just because those ones could fly and all that but ground mechs... inefficient as i dont know what.
