No one I've spoken to about this movie believed it to be anything else but total fiction.
That is because you are an intelligent person, whose friends are also probably intelligent too - hell, even the idiots on this forum are relative rocket scientists compared to the human member of the herd on the streets...
I mean, really, Mobius, do you think that Americans would think a film where Jon Bon Jovi is a star is meant to be serious .
And are you joining the Fantasy (American) Football league this year or not?

Yes *he says without a hint of sarcasm or irony in his typing...*
I mean, really, Imran, do you think that Americans would take a Presidential candidacy by Ronald Reagan, a B Movie actor, seriously...
It doesn't say it isn't either - if almost half the pop of the US can't even figure out that Al Qaeda and the Taliban were based in Afghanistan or that 30% of them can't even point to the Pacific Ocean despite the fact that the entire US western seaboard is a part of it - then we can fairly expect these same morons to believe that it is historically accurate...
um... i duno about other americans, but everyone i know ASSUMES movies are total fiction unless the film exlicitly says its based on a true story (which all true stories say, it like a rating). I had the hardest time trying to convince my friend that Black Hawk Down was an actual occurance... he only saw parts of the movie and ddint realize it was based on the American action in Mogadishu.
Yes but you scored 20/20 on the Nat G quiz - as opposed to a large proportion of your compatriots...
Oh and it was a SH*T movie BTW - I was quite enjoying it until they survived the U Boat attack, and it rapidly sunk to even greater depths from that point on as disbelief had to be suspended from ever increasing and dizzying heights...
There was nothing new in it that wasn't covered by 'Das Boot' in a far superior way - a total waste of celluloid apart from a fairly commendable appearance by Bon Jovi, considering...
Total American Hollywood bullcrap!
Why didn't they just do something on the fascinating actual capture of U-505 by a US task force???
Yeah, it pretty much sucked, didn't it? I had to rewatch Das Boot (German version) to purify my sub-movie watching soul after seeing U-571 on video.
As soon as it got down to them trying to operate the boat at all on an 8 man crew, I knew they didn't have **** for technical consultants, and the rest of it would just get worse.
Made for a great original troll for you, though.

Of course not. He had Bucky there with him.
