No, but all the highest officials were Brits, and all the rules were either made in Whitehall or in the British Parliament.

Things got steadily better since the '80s, but Patten screwed us up bad.

No, I'm thinking about pictures like these (no dead ones. Though I found PLENTY!)

I mean as an independant political entity with its own government structure and democracy.

Well, Hong Kong was a dominion. The US does it to Hawaii. France does it to Corsica. New Zealand did it to Samoa.

Why is Hong Kong any different?

Tassadar: I returned from Hong Kong two weeks ago after a week there, and I must admit some of the buildings there are pretty modern, and put shame to those pictures there.

However, it has to be impressed that a lot of the buildings from British periods are somewhat "shoddy".

Most the buildings from post-Britain are most flash indeed (I point out in particular the airport and the Mass Transit System). The hotel I was in (Holiday Inn, Downtown Hong Kong) was next to a place called Chungking House. It was the most derilect building I had ever seen in a metropolis, and no effort what so ever had been made to restore it.

I realise Hong Kong is a S.A.R. to Beijing, but killing non-Chinese history like that was quite shocking, to say the least.

            Some pictures of HONG KONG:

I like this picture. It shows a small boat in the face of an advanced, modern city.

I'll post some pictures of my visit to HK soon.

But I must tell Tassadar those buildings above were all made from bamboo scaffolding.

              Go figure.

I was just responding to Tassadar, as he seems to think that we were better off under colonial rule.

Right. This one is taken from mainland Hong Kong, on the way to the airport.

If you look in the middle of the photo, across the sea, you can see Tassadar's building, dwarfed by the surrounding ones.

I wish I had taken some of Hong Kong at night. It really was a site to behold.

Frozzy -- we do what to Hawaii?
No, I did not steal that from somebody on Something Awful.

Ah, I can easily trip you up with two simple words: QUOTE ME

I'm simply saying that becoming an independant political entity (read: a country) would be better for Hong Kong in the long run.
