You said normally you wouldn't go into Liberia, but because of the US's credibility on this issue, you support it in this case, thus making the current state of US credibility what makes this situation not normal.

We already have one. And if you read al Qutb or al Maududi, they're not going to just go away if the west tucks it's collective heads up it's collective asses.
You are making the mistake of thinking there are only two strategies of defeating terrorism.

      1. bomb them
      2. ignore them

there's a third, but it involves things like sharing, conservation, regulating arms sales, curbing imperialism and corporate abuse... when the people in power benefit from not instituting such policies, positive change doesn't occur.
To us, it is the BEAST.

The US's credibility is part of it... I didn't say it was the only factor.

However, the way you stated it did not indicate in any way that there was another factor.

Even more so, that other factor (them asking for our help) wouldn't be enough, due to your wording.

I apologize for that. Because I'm limited into typing, I don't often spend the necessary time reviewing my posts before submitting them. Also, I am limited in my communications skills. Sometimes, what I post sounds good in my head, but isn't necessarily EXACTLY what I feel/believe. It's good to see you politely asked for clarification rather than spouting insults. Most 'Poly posters would have just called me an idiot and been none the wiser.

Thanks, no apologies necessary. I'm a stickler for grammar and such as I had it branded onto the inside of my skull during elementary school

Actually, there's only one way to deal with them And I'm more concerned about Islamic fundamentalism than terrorism per se - I really don't want a bunch of Islamic Republics with nukes, even if they play relatively nice for the moment while it suits them.

there's a third, but it involves things like sharing, conservation, regulating arms sales, curbing imperialism and corporate abuse... when the people in power benefit from not instituting such policies, positive change doesn't occur.
Some of this integrates into the comprehensive approach for dealing with them, but some of it is nonsense - arms sales are beyond the reach of regulation, and what isn't sold is generally stolen or developed independently. Imperialism is in the eye of the beholder, but in the Islamic Fundie world view, the beef with imperialism is that it interferes with the spread of fundy Islam by the sword. They want us out of the Islamic world, because they want to consolidate their control first. Corporate abuse, corporate shmabuse. Most of the places where the *******s thrive, we haven't had much corporate reach, good or bad. Economic development and education are critical issues, though, so you can't take an approach of disengagement, and expect not to get slapped next century.

Conservation would work in Liberia how? Regulating arms sales.. yeah I agree... what imperialism? Taylor is an anti-european/anti-american like Mugabe... corporate abuse? Companies aren't gonna do business in a place like Liberia.. it is too dangerous.

                  Sorry Sava....

Counting other Islamic Republics, so does France.

Sorry that was a real bad troll...

It wasn't meant to be a troll, it was just a response to something MtG posted.

And personally i really don't mind france having nukes. it is a stable country. Pakistan however ?

                              God Bless You Gate

Here's a morbid article about the "God Bless You Gate" outside of Monrovia. At least this gate has a CO, unlike the last bridge of civilization in Apocalypse Now.

I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

Let 'em see real soldiers, and then see what they have to say.

(although what I've heard suggests we'd send Marines, so let 'em see real Marines.)
