I'll let you into a secret. Not all parts of the North of England are grimy post-industrial hellholes. You can even get decent beer for less than £5 a pint

The weather is generally poor though.

and as my late grandad was fond of saying 'once you get north of watford, everything turns to rat ****'.

never mind, at her age they don't usually last long after their spouse dies!

BTW have you read some of the tributes in the right wing press
to the old duffer? He comes across as a mixture of Winston Churchcill, Einstien and Oscar Wilde!

It's ludicrous. He got a knighthood for (presumably) knobbing Maggie at some point. Can anyone name anything else he did except play golf and drink gin?

Watching from over here, I must admit some astonishment at the amount of vitriol being thrown at the man. Is this normal treatment for the spouses of disliked pols? I'm thinking back, and I can't say I remember Pat Nixon being treated this way.
No, I did not steal that from somebody on Something Awful.

That's not vitriol. It's bewilderment. In fact, the coverage has been highly sympathetic given his more unsavoury opinions.

It was the overall impression I was getting from threads on the topic here and at other places.

"Ding dong the witch('s husband) is dead!" sticks out in my mind in particular.
