the only other argument is the term "gateway" drug.

That is not something I agree with.

Too many times I hear things like: people who use heavier drugs started out on marijuana. Which is stupid. How can marijuana be a gateway drug? Isn't it a barbituate? If anything, it could only be a gateway to other barbituates. Not stimulets, depressants, and hallucinigins.

If anything, Ritalin is a gateway drug Or Caffeine, or alcohol.

I don't know: have you seen the size of newspapers today? Man, that must be hard to fit in the mouth, and that ink smoke?

          That's a real man's smoke.

Of course it is a Gateway drug! After using a Gateway, you need one .

alcohol is such a dangerous drug. So many wife beatings, rapes, and other crimes happen under its influence. It destroys so many lives...
that because sooo many more people drink regularly then smoke pot. Im pretty sure the end result would be the same. either way im indifferent. a lot of my friends do it, its fine with me. I just wont ingest smoke into my runner's lungs

also I was listening to a radio program about medicine.

He was saying that so far researchers haven't seemed to find any detrimental effects of the smoke itself. Even though it has more tar and other things than cigarrettes.

There are a few theories going around about this. First of all, people don't smoke 20 or more joints a day- and they are usually smaller than cigarrettes. And often you share them anyways. Also some people use bongs. There have even been studies that have shown smoking 2 or 3 cigarrettes a day really isn't bad for you- that remains controversial however. It is also possible that there is something else in cigarrette smoke that is so unhealty that isn't in marijuana smoke.

The Gateway argument is stupid. Addiction is an illness. The medium is irrelevant. There are alcoholics who have never smoked a joint in their life.

The "Truth" commercials display that they have things such as ammonia, toilet bowl cleaner...etc.

However, cigarettes should probably also be banned for the mere evilness of their respective companies. Weed should be legalised.

my good friend who is a casual pot smoker and former teamate on the basketball team might disagree. After playing a pickup game, he has a hrad time going hard up adn down the court a few times before coughing and hocking up some pretty nasty stuff... he used to be in pretty good-shape and not hock any stuff up at all, even after long breaks of just sitting around like summer or christams. it might not shorten your life significantly, but its not healthy

I think cigarettes should still be legal, but should be regulated differently. Smoking natural tobacco is much better than smoking factory cigarettes. My great uncle smoke natural tobacco that he grew for nearly 60 years. He died at 92... of liver failure... which was unrelated to any problems associated with smoking tobacco... he was cancer free. While smoking tobacco and marijuana, or anything for that matter, probably isn't good for your lungs, I suspect the large amounts of lung cancer are due to chemical additives. Also, I'm sure there are air pollution related lung cancer cases that get misdiagnosed as the result of cigarettes use.

I don't smoke cigarettes, for the record.

While I don't think that pot should be illegal I think that it is a harmful drug, both to your health and even more importantly to your judgement. I used to smoke it, but I haven't in years and I know I'll never do it again. However, the drug war is a failure, and they should legalize it, though I think they should continue with antidrug education and commercials.

the comparison is relative... I'm sure eating three fat cheeseburgers a day is worse than smoking a joint... of course... I would agree with the assessment that pot is a gateway drug for junk food
