  • Using euros as drug money

BBC, News, BBC News, news online, world, uk, international, foreign, british, online, service

As a somewhat naive person who doesn't do (illegal) drugs I was a bit surprised by this.

If this becomes widely known in the UK I wonder if some of our idiot politicians (the particularly stupid ones) will try using it as an anti-euro argument .

90% of notes have been used to snort cocaine?

      *cough* Bull-****! *cough*

"The concentrations of cocaine on Spanish euro notes were almost a hundred times that of what we recorded in Germany," he said.

I remember hearing from radio that EXACTLY same amount of bills, 90%, but in UK when I was in army. I remember it clearly because we laughed so hard... so I don't know.. but there weren't Euros as currency then. And they still aren't in UK.

I'm not sure you understand that Euro's are produced in many different countries.

I also understand that US, UK, and quite a lot of other currencies show traces of cocaine in this way.

What totally mystifies me is why they have a loaded syringe in the photo on the web site. I mean, the BBC would surely have a mirror and razorblade handy as extra props - but I don't see what a syringe has to do with snorting coke.

There are even people who use them to light cigars.

They didn't say 90% had been used to snort cocaine. They said 90% showed TRACES of cocaine. They ALSO said that euro bills could get "contaminated" in ATM's, etc.

The cocaine molecules are very "sticky". Basically every euro note that gets in contact with one that has cocaine on it will also become contaminated. Probably it's enough to have one contaminated note in your wallet to get most of the other notes contaminated too.

So the value of the Euro is going up?

More a case of the US$ going down - or maybe staying the same - after yesterdays interest rate cut.

But wouldn't the euros scream, kick, etc?

                            Because of cocaine?

I understand that perfectly, but am loathe to accept as fact the supposed 'evidence' touted in a sensationalist non-news item.

After all, who cares if 90% of banknotes show miniscule traces of cocaine? What does this tell us: that there is a huge drug problem in the world? No ****ing ****, Sherlock.
