  • Has anyone ever said something SO surprising to you, you couldnt understand how they

ALWAYS had a big interest in spaceflight, stars etc.....

At the very least I would think most people would be uninterested, but I couldnt imagine, it hadent ever occured to me there was someone who was ENTIRLEY AGAINST IT!!

I was talking to someone rescently and they asked me what kinda books I liked...... I mentioned sci-fi. Here is their response:

"Oh I cant stand sci-fi or anything to do with space. All those people really just wanna go to other planets, which dosent effect us at all, its all such a waste of time. Anything to do with exploring or studying space is a waste"

I've had people say things to me I didnt expect, but my jaw dropped... my brain shut down. I was so COMPLETLEY disarmed by what she said I was left speechless, and a few moment later I had so many things to say(how moronically wrong she is on every level) that I didnt know where to start!

I told her I had to go... conversation ended.

Thoughts on this airhead, OR when someone said something to you so surprising, you couldnt imagine anyone believed that?

You would then be shocked at how many people in the US think that any space program is a waste of money.

      She's an airhead.

      But she's a woman, too.

I myself have gotten things like that. It's best to ignore it (or the person entirely), because there's no recovery for 99% of the cases.

You would also be shocked at how many people in the US use AOL, and how many can't identify Iraq on a world map.

That wasent quite as bad, but the first time I heard this said, I was left UTTERLY speechless..... especially since 3 of my familly members worked on the original space flights!

                  she may be right

and they can't identify Iraq on a world map because it doesn't exist

If she knew that when she unleashed her horror of poor thought process, then she's not only an airhead but she also doesn't really think things through before saying them. Scoundrel.

The first space shuttle was fake too -- it was obviously made of paper mache with other illusionary effects.

                          Vesayan:

I would've said the same exact thing to you. hell, i know a girl who loves sci-fi and i said basically the same thing to her.

the only sci-fi shows that i actually like are StarGate (which up until the last 2-3 seasons really wasn't very sci-fi) and the original Star Trek (sci-fi made for a popular audience... that ****'s whats up)

                          thanks

So you believe that "anything to do with exploring or studying space is a waste" Speer, or you just don't like sci-fi stuff, because the first really would be quite ignorant.

i just don't like sci-fi... it's bizarre stuff. i guess i would have a higher opinion of it if there wasn't that stereotype of the obsessed star trek fan and what not but even still, it's not very appealing to me.

as for the exploration and studying of space, i do think it's somewhat of a waste. i'd have to know how much public funding NASA is getting though... if it's only a few dollars per person per year than i guess it's alright.

nevertheless, i think NASA should become more profit oriented and try to utilize space resources. i would think a commercially-oriented NASA would have a mining colony on the moon by now...

and yeah i can see how a majority of americans would be against NASA. there's little practical information or material coming from the space program. everything like microwaves and velcro and all that are side products that did not come from exploring space.

                              thanks
