The war on terrorism is unwinnable

that doesn't mean we shouldn't try of course. I'm never a big fan of laying down and surrendering. We will fight to the death.

But who's death? Who will win?

Eventually there will be nukes, and eventually they will be used on the U.S.

I know this is pessimistic, but I predict only doom and gloom the next 100 years. Yes someone mentioned this in another thread. Eventually in 100 years everyone will have nukes.

So eventually they will be used on the U.S. They will keep using them on the U.S. until it is either a) annhilated, or b) unconditional surrender.

I fear the only way of stopping terrorists would be total annhilation of the countries they operate from.

so in the future there will either be: annhilation of the U.S., surrender of the U.S., or annhilation of some muslim countries.

But what can we do in the meantime?

Right now we have two main choices. Take a hard stance against terrorism (my personal choice), and make every attempt to root out terrorist and kill them or put them in permanent detention. Or we try the nice guy way, and try to find out what's bothering the terrorists, and change our foreign policy to make other countries and other people happy. There is a third choice I suppose. And that is isolationism.

Go ahead with your thoughts on the future and how we should proceed from here.

War on just about anything is impossible to win. No justice, no peace - no peace, no justice. There will always be people who want to fight, always people who are oppressed, always people who want to blame their misery on someone else causing tensions.. always.
The only thing we can do is to fight it and make our own losses as little as possible, and so far we've been successful excluding 9/11.

Atahualpa, it's not us who had problem with terrorists. It was them who had problems with us. If we start showing respect for them, they only will use it to their advantage. We must respect them as clever and smart enemy, but not as sensible human beings who deservers something other than death without honour.

If you're talking about poor and oppressed people in general, then what do you suggest we do? How do we show that respect? I'm not saying it's impossible, I just want to know what you had in mind.

well there is a possibility they move into the modern age and become less warlike.

But is it possible one group of people are more violent and warlike than another? I know that borders on racism, but it is a serious question. That seems unlikely though. As studies have shown there is little difference between human DNA from one race to the next. Humans are suprisingly alike. But the Indians seem so peaceful while the arabs do not.

I suppose it is more of a cultural thing than a race thing. but how do you change a culture to be less warlike?

Sloww, agreed. I believe that if all the radicals and terrorists put some effort on good old working instead of getting bombs and organizing terrorist groups which is a full day work, they might even start florishing. Western world has done a lot to keep their advancing slower, but if they stopped pointing fingers, let the past go, look in the mirror and start doing something for themselves, not against someone, they could actually succeed.

To me, it's their own choice. If they choose to fight us with their free wills, so it will be.
