I wouldn't agree. I've only been to 1 (yes, one) pure rap concert but it was well worth the ticket price (Ice T on the OG tour).

Ice seemed lame, the support acts were much better - that's because he was mixing them, and the engineer mixing him was an idiot.

As for there being a lot of good stuff out there - I really couldnt comment.

rap is always garbage performed live on stage... no microphone and speaker set up has been invented that can pick up every word a rapper says and have it be heard clearly by thousands of loud ass fans... add in a pounding beat and the tendency for there to be a whole crew of hype men shouting every two seconds and it's clear that you can never understand a rapper on stage. and thats not even mentioning the fact that the words a rapper says are difficult to pick up unless you memorized the song are have been listening to rap for years and are used to listening intently.

but yeah i've never gone to a rap concert or nothing. they're always garbage. it's better to hear them on the album or at small shows.

              thanks

as for the minstral thing... as much as i hate suburbans, i don't think thats the case with rap. the old minstral shows were purely for making fun of Blacks... no rap fan puts on a 50 cent song and starts laughing at the man.

i do think it's suburbanites wanting to play gangster that gets them into rap though.

Ludacris and Ja Rule sound as good live as on album. Of course, depending on your opinion of them, that might not be saying much.

(Unfortunately that's whut a lot of rap is. Then again, a lot of country consists of "my pickup won't start and my dog just died" and a lot of pop consists of "oops I did it a*bluuuuuuuuurt*gain" and a lot of metal consists of "we are eaten by the machine". My point? Rap being bad or repetitive is a stereotype. Pop and/or country and/or metal being bad or repetitive is a stereotype. If you want to judge music, go song-by-song, don't just diss an entire genre. )

                              Jaguar warrior:

what the hell are you talking about? Ja Rule is several levels worse in concert than on his albums... you might not like his voice and all that but on the cds, he comes off clear and smooth... i saw him on tv on snl i think and he mumbled horribly and couldn't even rap a couple lines straight without pausing for a breath.

he's what a lot of people call a studio rapper. with punch-ins and all that editing ****, he sounds good but he can't do anything outside a studio.

(although he did sound surprisingly good when he was on rapcity)

Why can you not understand a rapper in concert but you can any other vocalist?

...because a rapper's CD is pieced by PRO-TOOLS and they sound as sh*tty as they do live in any other atmosphere. You honestly think the garbage performance has something to do with SUPA HYPED FANS and bad microphones?
