Funnily enough I was just going to write a post about that Drake.
Spoiler:
I think Ron is more likely to become a professional Quidditch player than Harry. That seemed to be nicely set up in OotP. I think he'll become the goalkeeper for that team he supports when he leaves Hogwarts.
I think Harry will be appointed as the Dark Arts teacher when he leaves school. Assuming he defeats Voldemort and lives to tell the tale who else could possibly be better to appoint. I can certainly imagine Harry as Headmaster of Hogwarts when he's old and grey too.
I don't know what Hermione would do after leaving the school, but I can easily imagine her as a future Minister of Magic. She'd be perfect for a job like that.
If I'm posting here then Counterglow must be down.

See, this is exactly the kind of thing I want to know about. You want to know what happens to these characters you've seen grow up, but if Rowling just ends the series after Book 7, we won't see that. I guess she could do a brief "Harry went on to blah, blah, blah..." type thing at the end of Book 7, but that would be rather disappointing. She's created this wonderful fictional universe and it would be a shame to see it never used again after this series is wrapped up.KH FOR OWNER!

She hasn't ruled out writing more Potter books (again, assuming he survives), but I believe she has said she would take a break - like for several years - before she re-visited that universe again ... and she might never write more.
You can bet that her publishers will give her a blank cheque if she agrees to write another series, though.
During her hiatus between writing books 4 and 5 she apparently wrote some short stories that were contemporary adult fiction (not porn). She said it was very liberating and didn't rule out writing some grown-up books after book 7.
Basically she's playing her cards pretty close to her chest. It'll be about 4 years until book 7 is published, I think, so a lot can happen in that time.If I'm posting here then Counterglow must be down.

Spoiler:I find myself wondering if two books are going to be enough to resolve all the questions Rowling has put forth. She has a lot of ground to cover, especially for two novels.“I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”

Book 6 will apparently be smaller than 5, I guess around Book 4 size. Book seven will she says, be big. Book 5+ I reckon. Should be good.Concrete, Abstract, or Squoingy?

I found a site last night that claimed to quote a BBC interview with Rowling in which she claimed that no novels would be written in the Potter universe after Book 7. She didn't rule out an encyclopedia or something similar, but no novels. Bad news.
In the interview, she also said that she would explain where everyone went after Hogwarts at the end of Book 7. Looks like we're getting the lame "Animal House" style ending.KH FOR OWNER!

The fans will want it. The publisher will sure as hell want it. I think she'd like to do it, but I'm not so sure she is ready for all the stress and pressure again.

I would prefer a seperate 150-200 page book, purporting to be a wizarding history book describing the 10 or 20 years after the (assumed) defeat of Voldemort by Harry. That'd be cool, and better than the Animal House style.
Doing that also suggest that we won't get any new novels, doesn't it?If I'm posting here then Counterglow must be down.

Possibly. It really depends on how in-depth her descriptions are of what happens to the main characters. If she's really brief and only covers what happens immediately after they leave Hogwarts, she could easily pick the characters back up later in their adulthood and start a new series. If she goes into great detail and lays out their whole future, however, then she certainly limits her ability to write future novels.
It's really an interesting conundrum. Do you, as a fan, want to know what happens to Harry in detail at the end of Book 7, knowing that no later novels will come? Or do you settle for a lackluster description of what happens to Harry in return for the possibility of future novels?KH FOR OWNER!
