Lately I've been looking over the 'net for opportunities to study abroad. Reason? I don't like this place and would like to get away from here as soon as possible; I was hoping to go to Ireland or something study, work and eventually get naturalisation there. What I have found out is that unfortunately studying abroad (Esp. my preferred destination - Europe) is for the financially wealthy only. To cover the cost of one year study in a cheap course in GB or Ireland, as I found out, I'll need to work for two years with zero expenses (living w/ parents I guess and no social life, at least none that costs anything)... Fun, eh?

Any ideas from y'all about opportunities for the less fortunate such as myself? Scholarships for intl. students are rare and I don't see how I could get one with my school record anyway (let's say that I could do a LOT better if I put even minimal effort in highschool.... Stupid me...)

How cheap are near-eastern countries and the Med? I bet Greece, Turkey and Eastern Europe would be fairly cheap.

Can you go on the dole once you get there? That might be an option...

(I'm also looking at study abroad right now. I'm deciding between interning/classes in London or Barcelona
If you look around and think everyone else is an *******, you're the *******.

In Germany you probably won´t have to pay fees for the study (at least as an international student).
But of course one oimportant prerequisite would be a good knowledge of the german language

Does Israel take part in the European Erasmus Programme? It is especially made to give Europeans the chance to study in other European countries. Try to find some info on Israeli unis.

No help of course if you want to go outside Europe....

Good knowledge of the language? Obviously you've never met a foreign student before

yeah i lived with a couple of erasmus students this year, they said it was a great laugh in swansea, not too pricey for them either, but as israel isn't an EU country you might have to pay a bit more.

another thing, what year are you in at uni, most foriegn students come here in the second or third year, unless they want to do the whole course in britain.

I'm not erasmus or anything like that. Free in Germany? Hmm. Iche Sprache Deutsch. Or not. I can learn tho. As long as it's Europe...

C0ckney: I want to do the whole course abroad. You see, I want to get away as little as possible. Plus, as an international student they will (hopefully) look more on entrance exams or something and not highschool record

Is this true by the way?

In any case, I'm out of highschool and hopefully I'll manage to squirm out of the Army too (You know they freed 2 to-be-drafted conscientious objectors by the Conscience Committee this week? This is bloody unprecendented in Israel's history! They freed 14 last two years and they all 30-year old couch potato reservists!)... As soon as that happens and also as soon as I manage to get the money I need to go, I'm out of here.

A word of warning about studying in the UK. For non-EU students, the prices are outrageous. Foreign students are really bled to help the universities earn cash.
Exult in your existence, because that very process has blundered unwittingly on its own negation. Only a small, local negation, to be sure: only one species, and only a minority of that species; but there lies hope. [...] Stand tall, Bipedal Ape. The shark may outswim you, the cheetah outrun you, the swift outfly you, the capuchin outclimb you, the elephant outpower you, the redwood outlast you. But you have the biggest gifts of all: the gift of understanding the ruthlessly cruel process that gave us all existence [and the] gift of revulsion against its implications.
