  • BNP loses Burnley by-election

    : points and laughs:

Thank heavens, the tide of scapegoating, racism and moral absolutism could finally be starting to turn!

Well, I hope this is a start of a trend and it will certainly take the wind out of their sails.

well i certainly doubt this is the begining of the end, nothing has really changed, people who feel let down by the main parties are still likely to turn to the BNP.

Is it just me, or is that party seriously lacking in wisdom/philosophy?

Just seems to be the old trend of racist parties (and it is, looking at policies, discrimination advocated, as well as many members being active racists... not to mention the lame economics), of taking advantage of desperate situations, and scapegoating, in this case, the general scapegoats in many parts of Britain, blaming immigrants and asylum seekers. Its shameful they take advantage of it.

Sadly, losing by 11 votes is hardly a massive vote against the BNP - especially as the seat actually changed hands. Wonder where the Labour vote went...

The BNP didn't lose anything, they just didn't win yet another seat.

Where is their Apolyton representative (ie, Stew)? They lost by 11 seats? That is alarming...

Not really. Turnouts in Council ward elections are usually tiny, with 300 votes often sufficing to get a victory.

What it means is that they have dropped to third place in terms of councillors in Burnley.

                          11 votes, not seats.

Actually it looks like quite a big turn-out. That makes sense- small turn-outs tend to benefit vocal fringe parties.

Funnily enough, there is a town adjoining Burnley called Nelson

Oh I see, it's just a council ward one is it? They aren't very interesting, I thought it might be a constituency by-election which would be more startling...
