  • I was wrong about Jessica Lynch

    The goverment lied to us.

I should have figured as much. It seemed stupid to lie about something that would be made public. How can this administration be so stupid? While I initially supported Bush, his administration has done a very poor job the past two months.

Why are all his administration personnel leaving? I can see one or two. But I can't help but get suspicious when everyone is leaving. That chick from the Pentagon is leaving as well. Something is rotten over there.

Unlike some people, I am man enough to admit when I was wrong.

I had trouble believing she suffered that many injuries in the attack. But it seems that her humvee hit another vehicle extremely hard. They are now saying the collision cause all those broken bones in her body.

Also early reports said that she killed half a dozen Iraqies and emptied her rifle and all ammunition. Now it is being said her gun jammed.

As for the rescue itself they still don't admit to using blanks. I doubt they did- they were in a combat zone after all. But they do say no shots were fired inside the hospital. But flash-bang grenades were used to disorientate the doctors. How much of that was staged is unknown.

The Bush administration and the Pentagon are all lying sons of *****es.

Don't blam me, I voted for Gore.

All I know is that Bush can KMA as far as I'm concerned....as well as the rest of America who believes his tripe. I say we should get the FBI, NSA, and ATF in charge of the country for the remainder of his term.

The Pentagon is not made up of politicians.

They are professional civil servants, therefore they should know better.

But of course the top levels are all in bed with each other, retired generals/defence contractors/defence policy thinktanks/serving generals...one big happy Mil/Industrial Family.

Some of us didn't buy any of this in the first place because of the gigantic disconnect between the pentagon and centcom's (largely factual as it turns out) renditions of the story, and the crap from unnamed sources that has turned out to be a pack of lies. I don't know who that unnamed source was, but whoever it was is the culprit. AFAI can tell, the pentagon played this completely straight, and certainly their statements on the record bear this out. They didn't however spend any particular effort disabusing the press of the BS that the Washington Post swallowed and reported hook, line and sinker. Someone lied for certain, and we have no idea who it is, even if common sense tends to point a finger in the direction of the administration.

The coverage of this story on BBC and the Guardian has been nearly as bad as the original feeding frenzy in the U.S. press at the time. A lot of wild charges have flown from them, all as well documented as the original Washington Post story, which is to say not documented at all.

My thoughts exactly at the time. She didn't exactly inspire me with confidence in her Iraqi slaying capabilities. She looked like someone who gets by with a little help from her friends.

There's no excuse for this kind of slip-shod reporting. Now that I think on it, I don't remember the Pentagon or the adminstration spreading this disinformation. It all came from the same kind of media feeding frenzy that gave us the rampant looting of 130,000 Iraqi artifacts. Nice going press corps.

It's highly unlikely the press made up the story wholesale. It's far more likely (given past experience) that the story came from an "anonymous source" inside the exectuive administration.

This story demonstrates why "Wag the Dog" is one of the most truthful American politic movies of all time.

Yes, Wag the Dog. Again who's ultimately to blame here? A lazy press corps that repeats half-told rumors from any source without checking the facts. Whether its 130,000 Iraqi artifacts or Pvt. Lynch's firefight, getting the scoop first seems to be the highest priority. Truth runs a distant second.

                          Diss,

You must be 'under the influence' if you believe the crap thats coming out of the liberal press. It's impossible for us to know what Lynch did or did not do, or what the Iraqis did or did not do, since she hasnt said anything yet.

Check out less biased reporting link

The idea that any troops would go into a combat zone with blank ammunition is pure bull****. What does that say about the Iraqi source? When the story broke, there were threads here that pointed out some of the inconsistencies in the story that was being published. The latest liberal version is even worse than the original.

                              SpencerH :

For the second time in 24 hours, I see someone telling the Washington Post belongs to the liberal media.
Since I post here, I've always seen the Washington Post as being extremely supportive to Bush and his team, and I haven't seen any opposition from its part. Besides, it's DanS' favourite read, and I highly doubt Dan would read liberal media first, given his opinions. To me, the Washington Post has always been the serious news outlet from the right wing in the US, so I wonder why you consider it liberal (yeah, sure, they initiated the Watergate scandal...)

I can't wait to see you and other rightists whining about how liberal FOX is...
