  • Archduke Franz Ferdinand found alive

    ...First World War a mistake.

Would this be the case if hypothetically it happened?

Forget the issue of war and peace (few would argue that world war one didnt suck), but what would the world be like if World War I never occurred?

    Any thoughts?

that assassination was just the straw that broke the camel's back, or the excuse the German-Austro-Hungarian powers needed to punish Serbia for it's "insolence"

WWI would have happened regardless. I don't like thinking about alternative histories, since those events have had such a profound impact on who, where and what I am today.

Are we actually assuming that the assassination is relevent to the cause of WWI?

It was relevant. I have to agree with Sava tho. There could have easily been another event which could have started the war. Of course, the question all of the nations should have asked before declaring war was: 'is this archduke worth the millions of dead who will die in combat?' The answer is of course no.

Even if Archduke Franz Ferdinand was not killed, the fact that the assassination was tried would have been enough in itself to start World War I.

elijah: while I recognize that 9-11 is being used for justifying this Iraq war, there isn't enough evidence to suggest it was a plot or a "reichstag fire". I may hate Bushy, but I doubt he's responsible for 9-11 or could have prevented it.

WWI was about Imperialism and was imminent at that point. It was just a question of when.
