  • Would you rather be a famous scientist or a famous director

I used director in place of playwright. I ask this because I came accross this quote while reading discover magazine

"Even if I could be Shakespeare, I think that I would still choose to be Faraday"- Aldous Huxley

Is he saying he'd rather be a scientist in place of Shakespeare? I thought that was kind of odd, though not too odd. But he is a novelist after all, so that did seem strange.

I only choose Shakespeare because I'm surey he got a lot more ***** than Faraday . Sure faraday had scientific advances that changed the world, but somebody would have came up with those eventually. Really all you are getting is your name on things, and recognition for your intelligence.

I'd trade fame in the academic world and take fame in the popular world.

In any case I decided to include more options in my poll. I was only going to include two, but I've expanded that to 10.

    Scientist, or Rock Star.

    Don't care for the others.

But direction is so tedious, so boring.

Rock Star is all about fun.

I wouldn't like to be hated by a large group of people, so politician and famous lawyer are out.

I would rather be a famous scientist than a writer, but since that wasnt an option I picked writer.

But being a rock star or famous athlete would be cool too.

I'd like to be a progressive public figure. Perhaps an elected official that brings change to a currently corrupt American system. Teddy Roosevelt is probably the model I'd like to follow. I'd like to be remembered as a tough, straight talking individual who took on corrupt business and political entities and won. And perhaps someone who helped bring in peace to war-torn areas and someone who stopped the excessive and belligerent global arms sales.
To us, it is the BEAST.

Either a war hero or a rock star. I like accapella more than rock though. I was even the front man in an accapella band.

Director. Films, not plays. Rock Star is a close second, but it's just not as comprehensively creative I think.

Famous scientist is nice, but there's no lack of knowledge and technology in this world. What we need is a change of certain fundamental values of people, so that'd be a writer or a powerful politician. I chose politician because I can effect the changes directly, rather through the hands of other people. Actually I'd rather be a great political activist more, but there's no such choice.

Nuts to fame. Why would I want fame when I so manifestly hate people? As long as we're dreaming I want to be wealthy but obscure. As for famous people getting more chicks, women are a pain in the rear to keep happy and more than one would be a greater-than-worthwhile trouble.

I picked director/writer/playwright, I'd also add composer/artist to those three. these are the people that seem to be remembered thru the ages. Most of the rest are "what have you do for me lately" type deals, your only as good as your current achievement.

I chose director/writer/playwrite, half because that'd be cool, half because its the closest to actor.
