  • why....?! some people like their dogs too much.

    from the BBC

    Japanese dogs hit the catwalk

A Tokyo department store has put on a catwalk fashion show - exclusively for dogs.

Eight dogs - including poodles, dachshunds and Chihuahuas - took part in the show, modelling a range of new fashion wear for canines.

But the price tags on the items were likely to make pet owners yelp.

A canary yellow raincoat was going for 8,500 yen ($72) and a striped rugby jersey for 4,000 yen ($34).

For dogs with romance on the mind, a white wedding dress was also on show ($34).

    TV appearances

"It is the kind of thing that appeals to hard-core dog lovers," Mitsukoshi store spokesman, Satoshi Shimura told the Associated Press.

Chibi, a one-year-old Maltese, is male but seemed unperturbed by being seen in an elegant Italian white dress with a matching bonnet ($34).

He already has television appearances and calendar shoots under his collar, organisers said.

But Jasmine, a one-year-old female Miniature Schnauzer sporting sunglasses ($16) and a t-shirt dotted with red and white stars ($39), seemed more uneasy in the glare of the lights.

Aided by a boom in pet ownership in Japan, the show attracted more than 60 people

I see that as a sign of, that the owners hates their dogs instead... must be humiliating for the dogs...

The best thing I have heard done with dogs was the German ban on private persons owning any dogs that can be "dangerous", that is, any big dogs. Made me very happy back then. I can only hope that many countries will follow the example and impose bans on bigger dogs used other than in police/customs/similar. It could even be made a rule, say, in the EU...

I am a great dog lover... right now I have a 20 pound cocker spaniel, and a BIG(never weighed him, he is enormeous) bull mastif. The 20 pound dog is MUCH more aggresive then the bull mastif, who is VERY calm and friendly.

They will get my mastif when they pry him from my cold, dead hands

Well, any bull mastifs definitely fall under the banned category there. Which I am very happy to. Moreover, I want to punishments for breaking of this to be severe, so that people wouldn't want to break the rule.

Well, this probably comes mostly from the extreme circumstances over here, where dogs are free to walk in parks and such, AND they do not, in most cases (like 95%) have a tie or that cage on mug. Yes, there's a law that dogs must be equipped with both, and there's even an official ban on having walks with dogs in public parks, but it's not enforced in any way, so they're free. And I really would hate to be a father of a five-years old boy to whom some big dog comes and sees what he is, given that the dog is size of that child...

Regular watermelons in Japan cost from $15 to $25 each.
                      That's expensive

Why don't you enforce the laws you already have instead of making new ones to counter the problems caused by lack of enforcement?
