  • A question to christians and religious jews

Is, in your opinion, the existence of the modern state of Israel the fulfilment of a biblical prophecy?

Does that influences your political views?

As I understand it, the current state of Israel is considered a secular state, it is not the messianic state that will come later. It has no special religious significance.

I'm neither, but the State of Israel is the archetypcal 'self fulfilling prophecy' IMO

Yes. And, here are the prophecies that I feel may refer to the birth of the State of Israel in 1947.

          Ezekiel 37:11-13
Then he said to me: "Son of man, these bones are the whole house of Israel. They say, 'Our bones are dried up and our hope is gone; we are cut off.' Therefore prophesy and say to them: 'This is what the Sovereign LORD says: O my people, I am going to open your graves and bring you up from them; I will bring you back to the land of Israel.
Then you, my people, will know that I am the LORD , when I open your graves and bring you up from them.

          Isaiah 66:7-8
          "Before she goes into labor,
          she gives birth;
before the pains come upon her,
          she delivers a son.
Who has ever heard of such a thing?
Who has ever seen such things?
Can a country be born in a day
or a nation be brought forth in a moment?
Yet no sooner is Zion in labor
than she gives birth to her children."

Does that influences your political views? [/QUOTE]

Yes. As a Christian, I feel it is important for me to care about Israel since the Bible teaches that God cares about Israel.
'There is a greater darkness than the one we fight. It is the darkness of the soul that has lost its way. The war we fight is not against powers and principalities, it is against chaos and despair. Greater than the death of flesh is the death of hope, the death of dreams. Against this peril we can never surrender. The future is all around us, waiting, in moments of transition, to be born in moments of revelation. No one knows the shape of that future or where it will take us. We know only that it is always born in pain.'"

Absolutely not on both counts, Yes I am a Christian and the Bible states that a new Heaven and a new Earth will come when our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ returns, takes us up, the place of Armegeddon (Hebrew)(Revelation 16:16) plays out its part in God's Redemptive plan then a new start will be, a New Jerusalem..Read from the Book of Revelation Chapter 21 verses 1-5 speaks clearly how this old world will pass away

Many evangelical Protestants do believe that the creation of the modern state of Israel is a furfillment of biblical prophecy. I for one don't believe in prophecies but I do believe the Jews have a right to a country of there own in the land of their for fathers.

"The Jews will return in Peace to the land of Israel"

I dont see that happening, the irrational backlash to the horrors of the holocaust is hardly the fullfillment of a biblical prophecy, that most would safely assume to be heralded by the coming of a (new?) messianic age.
