  • Blair's Cabinet Reshuffle (*EIF* On The Radio)

I've agreed to face the hordes on University Radio York tonight; we're discussing yesterday's reshuffle of the Blair cabinet. The show is on from about 6.20pm BST and streams from the URY website. Rock. Listen in.

Anyway, what does everyone think of the reshuffle?

I wouldn't dare criticise King Tony in public. He's doing a marvelous job. (the internet/e-mail monitoring center came fully on-line this week...)

      Excellent. Straight after the Simpsons.
"Paul Hanson, you should give Gibraltar back to the Spanish" - Paiktis, dramatically over-estimating my influence in diplomatic circles.

I probably won't be home by then I'm afraid. Sorry. I'll try and have a look when I get in if I can.

I think Blair is a more beneficial PM than Major or Thatcher. I don't dislike the Tories - I ****ing hate them.

However, it's his pals that make me nervous - people like Alaistair Campbell and Lord Falconer. The latter is often mentioned as being head of this or that - but isn't he an unelected bureaucrat? And now in charge of the UK Constitution?

                Scary.

I was happy to hear that they'd gotten rid of Blair's chum Lord Irvine; only to have him replaced by Blair's chum Lord Falconer (a man who I have little respect for, personally).

Not letting (or doing his best to stop) brits from choosing the people who will rule us? it might not be comapable to Hitler or Mugabe but it's certainly an insult to democracy.

And Yes, Cruddy gives another good example of people with immense amounts of power in our government who wasnt elected.

Maybe, but New Labour didn't invent this. Senior Civil Servent and Armed Forces chaps have been in office for hundreds of years.

So this "removing true democracy" argument won't wash.

We never had it in the first place. Just another illusion.

Its beginning. Iain seems to be having some difficulty getting the headphones on his head.

On a slighty related note, where are you from Iain? Your accent sounds familiar but I can't quite place it.
