  • Should I join the army?

Im half way thru college so I think its pointless... Im trying to graduate within 1.5 years (but reality perhaps being 2 or maybe even 3! ) so if I can do that all that work within a year or so, benefits are really pointless. But if I don't and I suck, I might just have to. Parents are increasingly putting pressure on me to pay for school by myself and I doubt I can land a real job before I graduate and study at the same time.

Did I mention that my parents are paying thru student loan and trying to fork the debt over to me? ugh. sure its technically my debt, but give me some love you old geezers. :whine:

Would joining the army be a smart thing to do? I hate contractual obligation (which is very vague to me when I asked a recruiter who actively pursued me for awhile to join few months back) and I hate institutions. Man I hate brainwashing... but I'd whore my brain for few college funds.

Join the Air Force, and save as much as possible while you're enlisted.

While I personally would rather have hammered railroad spikes under my toenails than join the army, that's just me. Only you know for sure if you are army material.

Does US army also pay graduate school if whatever I recieve exceeds what I need to finish undergrad?

I don't think you're the kind who could take orders, and be braiwashed. You'd be a poor recruit in this regard

Work hard at uni and don't make it needed to join the army. It's the best way, and allows you not to whore yourself

I'd rather have railroad spike thru my foot so I cant move while homosexual gorilla tries to rape me than join something like army or frat... but then again, people do the craziest things for money.

                Army information
Whether you’re interested in Active Duty, Army Reserve, or Army National Guard, there are many ways to serve. Explore the possible Army careers and contact an Army Recruiter.

                Find a Recruiter
Find jobs which match your skills and experiences with job recruiters. The recruiter network’s head hunters find jobs as per individual requirements.

                  I agree.
and remember it´s not that easy to get out again, if you once find out that the army is not what you were looking for. being a soldier is not like a regular job.
but after all it´s your decision.

Join the Navy, we're more laid back, get to see interesting people/places, get all your damn tuition for everything paid(tm), and have upward mobility.

If you enlist in the USAF, you will never, EVER get promoted.

Army= Nothing applicable to the real world. In addition, you will never, ever, be permitted to wear civilian clothes. There were Soldiers at the base where my "A" School was.

                    Marines- scare me.

If you join the Navy you can go to a Nuclear engineering school (where the only credits missing for a BS in Nuclear engineering are History/english), all the way down to "Mess Specialist".

Personally, I recommend something in the Cryptologic Technician Maintenance, you'll get a lot of Electrical Engineering credits, and a automatic bump to E-4, which you usually have to take a test for.

graduate then join. You'll still get your student loans repaid but you'll be an officer instead, meaning, you'll make more and have an easier time of it.

                        This is not entirely true.
                        Through E-4 it's a time thing.
After that, it's time and tests.

                            Fine.

It is astonishingly difficult to be promoted.

And it's a "time thing" until E-4? What kind of operation do you Airdales run?

Piff. Have you ever heard of the Amry Corp of Engineers? How about the Army Medical Corp or Air Traffic Controllers or Quarter Masters or a million other jobs. The Army isn't just guys running around with guns any more then the navy is pansies running around in bell bottom pants.
