Still slightly numb. All I can say is WOW. It worked. It worked beautifully. This feels, truly and properly, like the end. The story's complete and, god, what a story.

The End of Buffy the Vampire Slayer *spoilers to come*
Exult in your existence, because that very process has blundered unwittingly on its own negation. Only a small, local negation, to be sure: only one species, and only a minority of that species; but there lies hope. [...] Stand tall, Bipedal Ape. The shark may outswim you, the cheetah outrun you, the swift outfly you, the capuchin outclimb you, the elephant outpower you, the redwood outlast you. But you have the biggest gifts of all: the gift of understanding the ruthlessly cruel process that gave us all existence [and the] gift of revulsion against its implications.

I've got much the same feeling I had when Babylon 5 ended. It's the end because it the story's over, not because the money's dried up or the writers are tired.
Spoiler:That scene with all the potentials across the world becoming Slayers. That was cool.Exult in your existence, because that very process has blundered unwittingly on its own negation. The story isn't really over. Josh did leave himself an out for any movie deals he can cut.

^ Actually, the network and the studio had already approved a spin-off based around Faith. Tim Minear (an accomplished Angel writer, including this season's finale) was going to be in charge of it (with Joss Whedon, of course), but then Eliza opted to go for the Fox series Tru Calling.
Given that Fox will likely cancel that show in half a season, we may yet get that Faith spin-off.

Here's the Starchild summary OneFoot:
I'm assuming you've seen up to End of Days. Anyway, Buffy slices Caleb again (into two sections!) and she and Angel manage to have a mature discussion about her history with relationships in which she realises she doesn't have to get them perfect right now. He gives her an amulet meant to be worn by a champion with a soul who is more than human. Buffy plans to give it to Spike and convinces Angel to head back to L.A. to set up a second front against the First Evil in case Sunnydale falls.
Buffy heads home and finds Dawn there instead of being miles away with Xander. Buffy realises Dawn's not going to go away and remarks "Fine, but if you get killed I'm telling." She heads to be basement and gives the amulet to Spike. With her room being taken up by a recovering Faith, she spends the night with Spike. In the middle of the night, she wakes up and walks over to the window, staring at what may be the last night before the Apocalypse. The First Evil appears in the form of Caleb and begins to taunt Buffy about how it's coming army will sweep the world and make it's will flesh. Buffy hits back with her usual witty comebacks until the First takes on her form.
The First sarcastically recounts the Slayer legend. One girl, all alone in her generation, standing alone against the darkness. "There's that word again. Alone. Where's your witty comeback?" it remarks. Buffy, for the first time, is silent. The First disappears.
In the morning, Buffy gathers the potential Slayers, Faith, Willow, Xander, Dawn, Giles, Robin, Anya, Spike, and Andrew. She launches into a speech about choice and offers the girls one.
They head off to the highschool to mount a pre-emptive assualt on the Hellmouth. The civilians (ie, anyone not a Slayer, potential Slayer, vampire or a witch) takes up positions to battle the Turok-Han when they get out. Giles and Robin take one hallway, Xander and Dawn another, and Andrew and Anya the last one. Kennedy and Willow set up magical emblems in the Principal's office, which is directly above the Hellmouth and the Seal of Darthanzar. Buffy, Faith, and the other potentials gather around the seal and use their blood to open it. They descend into the cavern beneath Sunnydale where the Hellmouth is at it's strongest. Quite quickly, the Turok-Han notice them and begin to charge forward.
Meanwhile, Willow has the scythe and is doing deep, powerful magicks on it. See, Buffy realised something after the First taunted her. She's defeatable because she's alone. Only one Slayer can be brushed aside and it's only one Slayer because thousands of years ago, a bunch of old men tied a girl to the ground and infected her with the strength of a demon. The Shadowmen, who turned into the Watchers, wanted a weapon against the demons but not one that could in turn be stronger than they were. So they made just one Slayer, knowing that one young girl could be easily controlled. However, one Slayer isn't a rule set in stone. The existance of Faith shows that there can be more than one Slayer at a time and it's only the magicks of a bunch of dead men that stops that.
Willow is stronger than all those men put together. Willow taps into the power of the Slayer that flows through the scythe and liberates it. In an instant, the rules change completely. No longer will there be only one girl in every generation who will be the Slayer. Now, every girl who could be will be a Slayer. Around the world, girls feel the power blossoming in them. Instead of a solitary Slayer, there will be a Sisterhood of Slayers. An army to stand against the darkness.
The newly created Slayers start battling the Turok-Han but a few manage to slip by into the highschool above. The Slayers, while achieving an impressive kill ratio, aren't simply killing enough of the thousands of Turok-Han. Buffy gets stabbed through the stomach and falls down, staring directly into the dead eyes of another dead Slayer. The First returns to taunt her and Buffy rises to her feet and starts to slice and dice Turok-Han.
Above ground, the First is clearly worried as it has gotten its Bringers to enter the fight as well. Robin gets sliced across the stomach. Anya gets cut from neck to hip by a Bringer and falls down dead. In the Hellmouth, the amulet worn by Spike, a gift to Angel by Wolfram and Hart, starts to burn him. A bolt of pure light shoots out and incinerates the Turok-Han. More light pours out and the Slayers flee as the ground starts to shake and cave in. Buffy pauses to tell Spike she loves him, to which he smiles and says, "I know you don't mean it. But it's nice to hear it." Buffy leaves him as the light encompasses Spike and he burns to ashes.
The surviving Slayers, Willow, Andrew, Giles, Robin, Xander, Dawn have boarded a school bus and are fleeing the collapsing Sunnydale as fast as they can. Buffy has made it to the roof and is jumping from rooftop to rooftop before landing on the bus and holding on as it speeds out of a town falling into the ground. When they clear the city limits, they stop the bus and get out to look at what has happened. Sunnydale has collapsed, filling the Hellmouth and preventing it from ever opening again. The army of the First is defeated, and although the First itself cannot be defeated, it can no longer threaten the Slayer line. There are now thousands of Slayers around the world and the Scoobie gang realises they need guidance. Buffy is no longer alone and can finally have reconcilation between her two lives. She can be the Slayer but it's no longer a job for one. She can also go to college, have a job, fall in love, and lead a, relatively, normal life.Exult in your existence, because that very process has blundered unwittingly on its own negation. Buh, the last season was great.Christianity: The belief that a cosmic Jewish Zombie who was his own father can make you live forever if you symbolically eat his flesh and telepathically tell him you accept him as your master, so he can remove an evil force from your soul that is present in humanity because a rib-woman was convinced by a talking snake to eat from a magical tree...
